Job Title:Pre-School Early Years Practitioner

Responsible to:Pre-school Manager

Purpose of the job:To work as a Key Person and as part of the Pre-School team under the direction of the Pre-School Manager to provide safe, high quality education and care for young children.

Main Duties:

To assist with the planning of the curriculum, adhering to current government guidelines and legislation.

To contribute to weekly large and small group planning, daily reviews and enhancements.

To help set up the play and learning areas for the daily programme and to help tidy away at the end of each session.

To act as a Key Person to a small group of children, liaising closely with parents/carers and ensuring each child’s needs are recognised and met.

To complete individual Learning Journals for Key children, recording stages of development and identifying any gaps.

To hold regular meetings with parents of Key children.

To advise the Pre-School Manager of any concerns e.g. involving children, parents or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.

To lead interactions with any parties providing interventions eg Speech & Language, Inclusion in conjunction with Lead Language Practitioner and SENDCO.

To teach, observe, interact and challenge all children, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulation following the EYFS curriculum.

To lead weekly large group sessions and daily small group sessions with Key children.

To attend staff meetings.

To attend in-service training courses and meetings as required.

To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff which is acquired as part of the job.

To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Pre-School Manager, in accordance with the Pre-School’s business plan and objectives.

This post requires an Application Form, proof of qualification, references which will be verified, Enhanced DBS.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

Diploma in pre-school practice NVQ level III or equivalent

Enhanced DBS Police Check

Experience of working in a Pre-School/Early Years setting

Sound understanding of child development and of children’s needs

Ability to provide input to the Pre-School curriculum

Ability to work with parents and encourage their involvement

Ability to work as part of a team of adults

Commitment to equal opportunities and understanding of religious and cultural diversity

Ability to write clear records

Good mental and physical health

Caring attitude with a sense of humour

Friendly, flexible approach

Willingness to learn and to apply new methods or practices under guidance from the Manager

Understanding of the EYFS

Desirable Criteria:

KS1 Teaching experience

Experience of a parent managed/parent involved Pre-School

Experience of Special Needs children
