Sean D. Pitman, M.D.
PERSONAL STATEMENT
I was born the eldest of two sons on June 29, 1970, in Chicago Illinois, to Tui and Faye Pitman, a pastor and a registered nurse. After living the first few years of my life in South America, where my parents were missionaries and where my brother was born, we moved to the southeastern United States where my parents still live. At my father's suggestion, I applied for and received an Army scholarship for medical school and very much enjoyed my four years of active duty as a battalion and brigade surgeon to include a year of service in S. Korea as an urgent care doctor and laboratory manager. When I finished my military obligation July 2001, I went into the individual ready reserves, married my beautiful wife Sigrid, and started my pathology residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC).
I successfully completed a five-year AP-CP program at LLUMC in June of 2005 with the honor of chief resident during my last year (one year credit awarded for transitional year internship) and am board certified in clinical, anatomic and hematopathology. I especially enjoy hematopathology and have written papers with Drs. Jeffrey Cao, Jun Wang, Qin Huang, and others from LLUMC and the City of Hope National Medical Center (COH). I finished my hematopathology fellowship at the COH under Dr. Lawrence Weiss, and am currently working as a partner in the Redding Pathology Group in Redding, California (since July 2006).
