Absent: Rebecca Levi (Chair), Laura Kimberling (Vice Chair)
3. Minutes from February’s meeting were read and approved
4. Principal and Staff Reports:
Angela—Babies on Track was hosted at the school Feb. 29 with 4 young mothers in attendance; maternity leave starts March 27th – May 1st and Vince and Marylil Spady will be the subs; she also reported on the successful completion of the Hoops for Heart presentation for the community which raised $1,042 for the American Heart Association; and finally the wrap of the salmon incubation project at the end of this week.
Shane—reported on the successful Kalskag Cultural Week. All students that went had a great time and learned skills like making a knife or ulu; the Upriver basketball tournament was a great success with the SLQ students winning the 3-on-3 bracket.
5. New business
- Fundraiser ideas for Washington, DC trip: The recent baketball tournaments raised $1000 and the Pizza orders brought in $300, bringing the school total to just around $5,000 for this school year. Angela presented the Toboggan raffle the SRV is currently doing for their trip this spring. Debi Rubera continues to work on grants for our students to go next spring. There may possibly be another dinner night in May. Shane and Angela talked previously about putting together videos with the students to post online or to be sent out with letters to possible contributors eliciting donations for the trip in the Spring of 2013. Another possible idea will be to hold raffles for such items as round trip tickets to Anchorage, iPads, or other items that students and staff could get businesses to donate. Most likely these raffles won’t take place until after the summer. Most PAC members agreed that serving food was their favorite fundraisers to support.
- SBA/HSGQE testing—April 3-6 (RE, WR, MA, SC). There will be no preschool that week and early out will be moved to Friday. The K-2 grade students are asked to stay home Tuesday-Thursday and a late start on Friday, so that staff can accommodate all the 3rd grade and up students who will be testing. There will also be no gym night during that week.
- Gym Nights in April will be reduced to one night a week, which was chosen as Tuesday, since Angela will be gone and Shane will be the only staff available to open the gym.
- Easter celebrations will be hosted by the Sleetmute Traditional Council this year, again due to Angela being out on maternity leave. Therefore we’ll look for further details to come from the STC.
6. Public Participation: Cheryl Mellick said that she was given some student activity books from a government-funded program that gives awareness to the harmful effects of dust in the air come summer. She will be making 9 copies for the elementary class to use and to spread awareness of how they can help reduce the harmful effects of dust by getting four wheelers to slow down.
7. Items for next agenda: none at this time (There will not be a PAC meeting in April. There may be one in May, but that will be determined at a later time.)
8. Next Meeting: VTC March 27, 6:00PM in the school library (flyers were handed out)
9. Adjourn at 5:20PM
