Florida Virtual School Policies You and Your Parent/Guardian Need to Be Aware of:

  1. The first 14 days in a FLVS course is your Drop/Add period or “trial period.”You may contact your instructor if you no longer wish to take the course with “no grade” during this period or you will be automatically withdrawn at the end of your drop/add period if you have not submitted your required work. During the Drop/Add Period you are expected tocomplete the “Getting Started” section and Lessons 4.00 thru 4.04 reading and assessments/quizzes.
  1. Consistent communication and weekly work habits are expected. Students should login, work in their course, and show up to class as they would in a regular course at school. Please check your email on the Dashboard and the in your course regularly to communicate and receive communications from your Instructor.

3. You signed a Code of Ethics in the Course Request Form. Students agree to submit authentic work, not copied from another student or from another source without citing the source. Academic Integrity is very important at FLVS. Violation of the agreement is grounds for discipline and/or dismissal. This is also discussed in the Getting Started Section.

4. In this course, you are required to complete three Wellness Plans which will consist of workout logs and other components to monitor your physical activities. You will construct your workout schedule as you move through the course. Your logs will be verified by a parent or guardian during our monthly call. The MOVband is an integral part of this course. Please see the information at the top of this guide regarding the purchase of the MOVband if you still need one.

5. Students are expected to talk with their teacher for a Discussion Based Assessment after completing Module 4 and Module 6. Discussion Based Assessments (DBA) cannot be skipped. These assignments are a way for us to touch base and have a conversation about what you are learning.

6. Collaboration is required for each Segment of HOPE. LIVE sessions are advertised on the Announcement page and offered weekly to help you complete this assignment. If you participate in a LIVE session, you will not need a partner. You will just need to collaborate with other HOPE students within the session in order to receive credit for the assignment. Please check out the Announcement page today and join us for a session in Week 5 after Module 4 is completed! **Please remember to watch the pre-lesson video before you log into the collaboration meeting.

7. Do you have questions or need help with an assignment? If so, look for the HOPE Help Site on the Announcement page of the course. Here you can find videos, graphic organizers, DBA study guides, and lots of other helpful resources. Still have questions? Please contact your teacher. We are here to support you and want you to be successful in the class.

8. In Module 6 you will need to complete the First Aid and CPR Training assignment. It is never too early to sign up for the hands on course. If the cost of the course is too high, or there isn’t anywhere in your area that provides the hands on training, there is an alternative assignment listed in the assessment area for this assignment.

TIPS FOR ATTACHING YOUR ASSIGNMENTS:

Create a folder on the desktop of your computer to save and keep copies of all of your assignments. We suggest you call it “HOPE.”

Do not insert any extra periods in your filenames. (example: 2.01.rtf – please change to 2_01.rtf). The system will not upload your file if there are extra periods in your filename.

To upload a video: You will be submitting two videos so your instructor can see your technique as you perform a few fitness activities. If you are looking for a way to submit these video projects for grading, you can also use the Web 2.0 tools. You will find access to Web 2.0 tools by clicking on the last blue tab bar (directly under "Logoff") on the left side of the class announcement page. Once you have entered the introduction, you will notice a drop down menu. Select "Audio and Video". This will provide two links to help you share a video. The links are School Tube and Teacher Tube. Click on one or both links and follow the steps to upload your video. When you are ready to submit to your instructor for grading, just be sure to include the link you have created in the Student Comments Section so that we can view your video. *Please contact our Tech Help Desk at 800.374.1430 and select #2 if you are still having problems so they can troubleshoot any issues you may have with submitting this assignment.

CHECKING YOUR PROGRESS (FOR STUDENTS & PARENTS):

HOW DO I CHECK MY GRADE? Click on the GRADEBOOK link on the left hand side of your screen. You will see a list of all of the assignments in the course and your grades. Click on individual assessments to read instructor comments and suggestions. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see your current average in the course.

You are able to reset the quiz yourself up to 3 times.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO SEE MY GRADE? Generally it will take 48 hours for your instructor to grade your work. All Instructors haveLead Teachers who may also assist with grading your work in the course.
