MRS. GROSS’ CLASSROOM POLICIES

(Keep this in your notebook)

1.   You are expected to be seated in the classroom when the bell rings. Students arriving late must sign the Late Sheet.

2.   Students should always come prepared to class. You need the following: pens (I ask that you use pen only), some type of notebook (spiral or three-ring), a folder with pockets just for Social Studies or an accordion folder with a section for Social Studies, highlighter, and an assignment pad. You need to bring your notebook, folder, highlighter, and pen to class every day. All homework, notes, tests and quizzes must be kept neatly. An up-to-date table of contents will be posted in the classroom to be used as a guide for the Notebook Checks. Colored pencils for your Notebook Check cover and 3x5 index cards for vocabulary flashcards should be kept at home.

3.   Copy your homework (which will be written on the board) into your assignment pad as soon as you sit at your desk. Take out the previous night’s homework if there is any and then begin the DO NOW assignment. Then write the assignments in your Table of Contents.

4.   Bathroom and water passes are allowed the last ten minutes of class unless it is an emergency.

5.   All work requires a standard heading in the upper right-hand corner of the page.

Heading: Full Name

Date

Period Number

Assignment and Page Number

6.   All work is expected to be completed when assigned. Since we will be reviewing the homework the following class, no credit will be given for late homework, unless you were absent. Please refer to your student handbook concerning missed homework due to absences. The day’s homework will be posted on the whiteboard. It is up to you to copy it into your assignment pad as soon as you sit down. It is your responsibility to make up all missed work due to an absence and to find out what it is. It may be helpful to have a “buddy” or member of the class you can call for missed assignments or ask him or her to bring the homework home for you. Some work may also be linked on my website and can be printed at home. Any unfinished classwork should be finished for homework.

7.   If there is an assignment that requires a computer/printer and you have a problem, a note from a parent or guardian explaining the problem is required the day the assignment is due.

8.   Grades are a combination of all tests, quizzes, homework, and projects. The breakdown is as follows:

Summative Assessments 35%

Alternate Assessments 35%

Formative Assessments 20%

Homework and Classwork 10% (√+=100%, √=85%,

√-=70%)

9. Extra help will be available Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday after school or before school by appointment. I require at least 24 hours’ notice. You will need a signed note from your parent/guardian in order to stay after school.

10. Remember - Behavior in the classroom is based on RESPECT - for yourself and for others.
