Use this lesson plan template to build your lesson plan

General Information:

·  For this assignment each student will take one of the labs that he or she has collected and will teach the lab to the class. Refer to chapter 13 & 14 in your textbook for help with this assignment.

·  Click on the links above to review the grading criteria for this lab before you proceed too far in your preparations.

·  The lab you choose to do must be approved by Dr. Firestone before you proceed with your planning for the lab.

·  The lab lesson plan described below must be completed and submitted for review by Dr. Firestone at least 7 days before the lab is presented.

·  Completed lab write-up must be posted to Brain Honey at least 24 hours before the lab begins.

·  Plan on a 60 minute time span for your lab. The lab itself should last 50 minutes, leaving time for a good intro and closure at the end of the lab. The lab could be shorter if you need more intro or closure time it will depend on the lab you choose to do.

·  Your lab needs to involve problem solving, inquiry or and/or be inductive in nature.

·  You are responsible for obtaining all of the materials needed and setting up the lab so that we are ready to start at 3:00 pm on your scheduled day.

·  Ifyou need any help in locating materials please let Sister Firestone know. Please do not borrow equipment or materials from any other teachers until you talk to Sister Firestonefirst.

·  Your lab must be taught as a stand-alone lab and cannot require any previous knowledge on the part of the student.

Planning for your Lesson – read carefully!

Your lesson plan must include all of the information that is mentioned in the lesson planning guide that we went over in class.

In addition to the general lesson planning requirements - your lab activity must include all of the following specific requirements for this Bio 405 course (all of these are included in the lesson plan template you are required to use for this assignment:

·  List the NSES and/or the Idaho Achievement Standards associated with this material.

·  A plan for introducing the lab to the students, including pre lab discussion questions.

·  A list and description of all materials you will need for the lab and where you acquired them

·  A description and detailed instructions of any preparations that must be done ahead of time (days or weeks before the lab is run)

·  A plan for how students will get their equipment (set up for them ahead of time, go to a lab location to pick it up etc.)

·  Rules that students will be asked to follow in the lab.

·  How will you address student misconceptions and a list of some of the misconceptions you expect students will have.

·  Plans for assuring the safety of students in this lab.

·  A list of the specific 3-part instructional objectives that you have for this lab (see reference material for writing good instructional objectives).

·  A detailed description of the assessment method you will use for the lesson. What are students required to do and how will they demonstrate this to you. (Lab report, quiz, group work, etc.)

·  A detailed example (criteria you will use to evaluate student performance and or learning) of what you expect the student to give you for their assessment (basically an answer key to the assessment method that you listed above). YOU do the activity and you do the assessment the way you expect the students to. Your example must be attached.

·  A list of the skills you expect the students to acquire or utilize in this lab. Explain how the methods you choose will lead to the results you expect.

·  A complete copy of the lab activity as it will be presented to the student.

·  Post yourlab write-up to Brain Honey.

Evaluating your performance

At the conclusion of your lesson please write a reflection detailing how you feel that the lesson went. Answer the following questions in your reflection. Make a thoughtful, meaningful and complete evaluation. . Please do not just number from one to 9 and answer each question. Write an essay that covers all of these points.

1.  What went well in your lesson?

2.  What were you surprised by?

3.  What did not go according to plan and how will you fix that?

4.  Where do you need to improve?

5.  Did the students learn what you expected? What is your evidence for this claim?

6.  What did you learn from the evaluations filled out by the students you taught?

7.  What did you learn from the evaluations of your peers?

8.  Would you teach this lesson again, if not why not?

9.  If you were to teach this lesson again what would you change?
