NOTICE OF RACE

The Organizing Authority will be the Royal Engineer Yacht Club

High water Portsmouth 0720 BST (Ht 4.1m)

Low water Portsmouth 1300 BST (Ht 1.9m)

High water Portsmouth 1950 BST (Ht 4.0m)

1. Rules

1.1. The event will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing 2013-2016.

1.2. The sailing instructions may make permitted changes to any rules.

2. Eligibility and Entry

2.1. The Ilex Trophy match is to be held between yachts of the Royal Naval Sailing Association (Portsmouth) and the Royal Engineer Yacht Club. Racing yachts shall be helmed by a full member of their respective club.

2.2. All boats shall hold adequate insurance and in particular hold insurance against third party claims in the sum of at least £2.0 million.

2.3 Each team shall consist of three yachts. Yachts shall hold an IRC certificate valid for 2016.

2.4 Should each team enter yachts that are similar, or one-design (e.g. X-332, J109), the team captains may agree to race these yachts as one-design or ‘level’ with their respective opponent. Remaining yachts will be scored against their elapsed time and IRC handicap.

3. Racing Schedule

3.1. There will be up to three races sailed to make up a series. All races sailed will count towards the Ilex Trophy.

3.2 The first warning signal will not take place before 0945

3.3 Races cancelled or abandoned will not be re-sailed.

4. Sailing Instructions

4.1. The sailing instructions will be available no later than Friday 23rd September 2016. They will be displayed on the ‘News’ page of www.sappersailing.org and will be e-mailed to skippers who have provided e-mail addresses.

5. Venue and Course Area

5.1. The match will take place in the Solent.

5.2. The course area will be specified in the sailing instructions including, but not limited to, the Eastern Solent and approaches.

5.3 Prize-giving will take place at the Hornet Service Sailing Club.

6. Courses

6.1. Courses will consist of racing marks as listed by the Solent Racing and Cruising Association HERE.

7. Penalty System

7.1. The sailing instructions will specify any changes to Rule 44 and if Appendix P applies.

7.2. For breaches of any rule, other than a rule of RRS Parts 1 and 2, the protest committee may decide the penalty.

9. Scoring

9.1. The IIex Trophy match will be scored as for a series of up to three races using the Low Point System. Appendix D to RRS (Team Racing Rules) will NOT apply.

10. Radio Communications

10.1. The sailing instructions specify that VHF radio, Channel 72, will be used by the race committee to communicate with competitors.

11. Trophies

11.1. The Ilex Trophy will be award to the club with best combined scores of Inshore and Offshore racing, as sailed. In the event of a tie the trophy will be awarded based on the Offshore series.

12. Safety and Disclaimer

12.1. Boats shall carry an adequate personal flotation device (PFD) for each person on board as specified by the entry form or sailing instructions.

12.2. The race organizers shall not be liable for any loss, damage, death or personal injury howsoever caused to the owner/competitor, his skipper or crew, as a result of their taking part in the race or races. Moreover, every owner/competitor warrants the suitability of his boat for the race or races.

12.3. No boat shall race with an anchor protruding over its bow.

12.4. A boat that retires from a race shall make every effort to inform the race committee as soon as practical.

13. Amendments to the Notice of Race

13.1. This notice of race may be changed or supplemented by a notice posted on www.sappersailing.org Every effort will be made by the committee to draw attention to any such changes.

14. Further Information

14.1 The event will be conducted in accordance with the RYA Racing Charter.
