Weather Explorers
Not all weather is sunshine and rainbows; gentle rain or breezes. There are many storms that could prevent hazards and are dangerous for a community or area of the world. Your job as a weather research team is to choose a disastrous weather storm and research its causes and effects. Tell the community what makes this storm disastrous! What will help warn the people better is to find a specific case study that can further demonstrate its causes and effects, but more importantly, what conditions in the weather led to this disastrous storm. You must prepare a Google Slide presentation on the majority of the portions of the project below, and you must also incorporate another medium for your presentation such as a poster, video broadcast, etc. You can use this portion of the project as a means of portraying any information that was not covered during the slide presentation. Your table will choose from the following topics…
Hurricane Typhoon Blizzard
Tornado Flooding Land/Mud Slide
Forest Fires
Each project should have the following aspects listed below...
1. Photos - images and diagrams that represent your storm.
2. What Is It? - What are the causes of your weather storm? What are the conditions to look out for before the storm happened?
3. Description – What are the effects of your weather storm? What kind of disaster could it have in an area?
4. Case Study – A specific example of your storm in the past 20 years. What were the conditions that led to this storm to occur, and what effects did it have?
5. Preventative Measures – what can people do to be safe and/or minimize damage during your storm?
6. Human impact - has any human activity caused any changes in the frequency or intensity of these storms (i.e. pollution, overpopulation problems, etc.)? What implications can this have on the future?
Spend your class time wisely to construct your project with your lab group. I will provide you with the poster paper, colored pencils, markers, etc. You may use materials from home if you wish. You will utilize your chrome books and/or the iPads to do research, construct your project, and/or find images you need for the project. A works consulted page listing the Internet addresses of the information pages you visited must also be provided along with the project (Wikipedia Does Not Count As A Source!)
*Hint = it will be helpful to do any research outside of class if you feel behind. The rubric for the project is located on the back of this page...Provide this rubric with your projects!
