A Thanksgiving Service; in Celebration of 75 years of the Trefoil Guild

Traditionally in guidingThanksgiving services have been held to celebrate major milestones in our history, both locally and nationally; in halls, places of worship and even out of doors. Here are some ideas that you may wish to consider if you are thinking of planning an event in 2018 to celebrate the Trefoil Guild’s 75th Birthday.

Leader:Welcome: We remember today, the start of the Trefoil Guild in 1943 and its growth over the years and the wisdom of former presidents & chairman, not only in the UK but also in Benelux and France, Cyprus,Gibraltar, Germany,Bermuda,Malta,Spain,St Helena and Lone members in;

Australia,Austria,Bahrain,UAE, and the USA. We rejoice that The Trefoil guild is a truly international organisation.

All:Today we are glad, we celebrate and we give thanks

The words may change, but throughout that last 75years our values and ethos have remained the same and have shaped the Trefoil Guild today

Music Licensing/copyright

It is usual to print just the words of hymns/songs in a service sheet, indicating the name of the composer on the bottom left & the name of the lyricist on the right hand side.

  1. Places of worship –

The singing/playing of songs/ hymns is often covered under the CCL (Christian Copyright Licencing) Ltd. Speak with the administrator at the place of worship about this. At the back of the service sheet you should write the following: The hymns and songs in this service are covered by CCL (Christian Copyright Licencing) Ltd and are reproduced under CCL No 1040271 & MRL No.1040288.

  1. Community buildings

Anyone organising a Thanksgiving service in a community building must check that the premises they are using for the service have a PPL & PRS licence before undertaking any musical or performance activities – see below:

Copyright law exists to protect music, and affects all premises, including those owned or used by Girlguiding. Owners of premises including community buildings church halls and village halls etc.; must register and pay for a licence to enable users to play any kind of music, show television programmes or films. A joint licensing scheme; applicable to community buildings; is in place covering both the Performing Rights Society (PRS) licence – the copyright fee for composers and publishers when their music is played live or played as a recording at events and the Phonographic Performance Ltd (PPL) licence covering the copyright fee for record producers when recorded music is played at a public event.
