How food is digested inside your body?
1- What happens when you chew?
- Food gives us energy, helps us to grow, protects our bodies from diseases.
- Food needs to be broken down into small pieces by the digestion process so your body can use it.
- Digestion begins in the mouth by :
- Teeth which grind the food into small pieces.
- Saliva which makes the food wet.
- Your tongue which mix the food with saliva.
2- How is food digested?
- After swallowing of the food, it goes into the esophagus.
- Then from Esophagus to the stomach.
- Then to the small intestine. Which is long coiled tube
Most of the digestion occurs in the small intestine.
- The digested food go to the blood so we can use it.
- The undigested food goes into the large intestine.
- The large intestine squeezes the (undigested food) and passes it as stool from the anus.
