From the Counselor’s Desk: January 30, 2018
If you are planning to attend college it is not too late to apply, but it is necessary to get your application in for early consideration. While priority deadlines for most schools are February 1, which does not mean you still cannot apply.
IMPORTANT DATES AT A GLANCE:

March 1: Priority Deadline for other Oklahoma Colleges
March 9: Registration deadline for April 14th ACT Test
April 6: Prom
SENIOR T-SHIRTS: See Mrs. Steelman (Room 205) to order your Senior t-shirt. The cost is $5 if your class dues are paid. If you have not paid your class dues the cost is $12.
CPR Training: Canadian Valley Technology Center will be here on Wednesday, February 28, to complete the CPR Training that is required for graduation. If you are CPR certified, please provide your card to the office so that we can exempt you from this class. Each student will be assigned a specific time period based on your schedule. We will schedule students throughout the day to help accommodate your schedule.
FINANCIAL AID: Students may apply for federal financial aid, in order to do so students must complete the FAFSA application (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.gov. You may apply beginning October 1, 2017, this is a change from original availability of January 1. This application will be based on 2016 taxes.
SCHOALRSHIP OPPORTUNITIES:
P.E.O. CHAPTER CR SCHOLARSHIP FOR WOMEN WHO EXHIBIT STRONG LEADERSHIP AND CITIZENSHIP. The value is $500 for a female student that lives in Grady County. Student must have a 3.25 GPA or better, requires letters of recommendation, and a completed application. See Mrs. Traxler for complete application. Due March 1

This website offers many scholarships opportunities for graduating seniors, current college students, and grad-students. There are a few that you might want to check out.
The Bennett Family Scholarship – For Students of a Single Parent – Deadline 2/15/2018
Orner-Cook Scholarship – GPA of 3.25 or greater and financial need – Deadline 2/15/2018
Guy & Ginger Zimmerman Scholarship – GPA of 3.0 or high planning to attend OU Deadline 2/15/2018
COLLEGE DAY INFORMATION: Take advantage of your college visits by taking the opportunity to visit their campuses. Visit the college websites that you are interested in to register for campus tours and events. Some campuses will offer visits in conjunction with college day activities. You may receive two college visits during your senior year as an excused absence. To receive an excused absence you need to complete the College Day form and have it signed by Mr. Odam, Mr. Surber, or Mr. Ragsdale prior to your visit, have a college representative sign it on the day of your visit, and then return it to Mrs. Abdon.
HELPFUL HINTS: Get organized. I would strongly encourage you to get a calendar and write down important dates such as application and scholarship deadlines, note when you submit an application and which college you submitted them too. Keep a copy of anything that you send in case something needs to be reproduced.
CREATE A RESUME’: Create a resume’. It can be time saving when filling out applications and scholarships and also it will be readily available when applying for a job.
CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT: If you are enrolled in a college class off campus, please make sure you have given me a copy of your schedule. This allows me to make sure you are meeting all graduation requirements. Also, enrollment for the spring semester will open after fall break.

OTHER CAREER OPPORTUNITIES: If you are not sure about attending college, but still would like career training, please see me and I will set up an opportunity for you to shadow at Canadian Valley Technology Center. Career tech offers many certifications in a variety of areas. The Next Step Scholarship is available to any student that attends Tuttle Public Schools and lives in Grady County. This scholarship is good for free tuition for students until the age of 24 at Canadian Valley Technology Center. Students can enroll in adult education programs and receive certifications in many areas such as health care, welding, and heating and air. Please see me for more information and programs available.
OTHER INFORMATION:
· Make sure you keep copies of all applications and forms submitted to colleges.
· Do not pay a company to find a scholarship for you. You have access to the same resources they do.
· If you are planning to play NCAA or Division 1 sport, please make sure you register with the NCAA Clearing House. You will need to have your ACT scores sent directly to NCAA by using the college school code 9999 when registering for the ACT. To register with the NCAA go to: www.eligibilitycenter.org.
