Collect

O

Almighty God, who hast knit together thine elect in one communion and fellowship in the mystical body of thy Son Christ our Lord: grant us grace so to follow thy blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living that we may come to those inexpressible joys which thou hast prepared for them that unfeignedly love thee; through Jesus Christ thy son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The Gospel Matthew 5:1-12

W

hen Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

Sermon Very Rev Oswald McBride, OSB

O Quam Gloriosum – Tomas Luis de Victoria (1548-1611)

Post Communion Prayer

O

God, the source of all holiness and giver of all good things: grant that we, who have shared at this table as strangers and pilgrims here on earth, may with all thy saints be welcomed to the heavenly feast in the day of thy kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Fundraising for our much-needed roof repair:

There will be an important meeting to launch the roof fundraising appeal on Sunday 5th November, after the 10:30 am Communion service, beginning at c. 11:45 am. We will outline the cost of the repairs, the strategies for raising these sums and explain how YOU can help to preserve St Giles’ for future generations.
