Total Health Risk Management Impact

The systems of Total Health Risk Management are designed to protect the health and well being of the individuals in the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department. They also decrease the fiscal impact of injury, illness, and sick leave use. The following three major systems of health and safety are focused:

The following are components and task descriptions of the Total Health Risk Management Systems. The Wellness and Fitness Program components that are currently implemented and/or completed as of January 2008 consist of:

•  Support IOJ/Light Duty/FMLA Case Management

•  Liaison with County Medical Review Officer for Individual Case Management

•  Assist Personnel to Coordinate Injury/Illness Medical Treatment Plans

•  Liaison with Physical Therapist for Enhancement of Treatment and Fitness Plans

•  Assist Personnel with Physical Therapy Treatment Plans

·  Peer Fitness Trainer Program

•  Coordination of Departmental Peer Fitness Trainers

•  IAFF/IAFC ACE Certification Compliance, Training and Education

•  Battalion and Station Level Education

•  Pre-Retirement Seminar Training

•  Executive Officer Wellness/Fitness Training Program

•  Create and Support Individual Fitness Programs for Personnel

•  Perform Individual Fitness Performance Appraisals

•  Coordination of Peer Fitness Trainers to Assist De-Conditioned Personnel

•  Assist with Pre-Hire Physical Abilities Testing

•  Liaison with Public Safety Investigations(PSI)

•  Liaison with County Medical Review Officer for Pre-Hire Case Review

•  Education and Training for Pre-Hire Medical Physical Review by PSI
