Job Summary:

·  Attend all mandatory training provided by Student Programs, Washington Student Association, Washington Bus, and previous OSLA staff members.

·  Develop and implement an annual legislative agenda and guiding principles, in association with student advocacy groups and governing bylaws.

o  Analyze and interpret survey results to build a legislative agenda for Bellevue College and communicate our legislative agenda with other student advocacy groups on behalf of students of Bellevue College in local, state, and federal governance.

·  Develop political strategy.

o  Create a focused political strategy. This can include creating or preserving relationships with politicians to ensure their group is represented in decision making, granted that this is in a nonpartisan effort.

·  Lobby.

o  Involves keeping abreast of daily developments, building relationships with those working in government who concern students, working with other student lobby groups, such as the Washington Student Association and the Washington Community and Technical Colleges Student Association, and other key figures to push the Bellevue College legislative agenda.

·  Manage the Interns

o  Help facilitate the internship hiring process by developing the application and taking an active role in recruitment and retention.

o  Guide and mentor legislative liaison interns at local, county, and state level. Keep interns abreast of developments at BC, and ensure consistent connections to campus.

·  Oversee media outreach.

·  Create and implement all aspects of grassroots lobbying efforts, including phone calling, letter writing, emailing campaigns and campus events

·  Responsible for legislative decision-making and strategy

·  Collaborate with the Vice President of Legislative Affairs and OSLA Community Relations Coordinator for overall program decision-making and strategy as part of the OSLA committee.

·  Occasionally participate in student outreach efforts as coordinated by the PALS center, or the ASG.

·  Travel as necessary for direct lobbying, attendance at conferences, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

·  Minimum 2.7 cumulative BC college-level GPA at the time of application or 2.7 cumulative quarterly BC college-level GPA for the two (2) previous consecutive quarters, and maintain a minimum 2.7 cumulative BC college-level GPA throughout employment term

·  Must be registered for a minimum of (6) BC credits during fall, winter, and spring quarter

·  Must have completed a minimum of (24) BC college level credits at the time of application

·  OPTIONAL: Must be able to drive around the State of Washington to conduct meetings (The Office of Student Legislative Affairs may be able to provide a vehicle for job related travel)
