Hello parents! Thank you so much for your continued support!
Here's what the children will be learning next week:
Math—The class will mentally add and subtract to find 10 more/less and 100 more/less than a given number. The students will also work on being able to add or subtract 1, 10, or 100 mentally from a given 3-digit number to solve problems using a calculator.
Reading—Students will describe how words and phrases supply rhythm and meaning in a poem. We will also distinguish shades of meaning among closely related verbs. Students will also describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges.
Writing— Students will continue to gather research for their informative writing piece on healthy eating.
Science—We will identify causes of water pollution and identify ways that students can help solve the water pollution problem.
Social Studies—We will continue to discuss leadership and determine characteristics of good leaders.
Spelling—Our focus will be on words that have the long o sound.

Second graders recently read the book Oliver Button is a Sissy by Tomie DePaola. He will be appearing at our local toy store on September 30th. Attached is a flyer about his appearance. We thought it would be very exciting for the students to get to see him in person and encourage your family to attend if you can! He will also be appearing at Politics & Prose on Sunday, September 29th at 11:00 AM.

We want to thank our parents for sharing with us helpful games and apps. One parent recently recommended an app called “Splash Math 2.” This app is helpful for students learning math facts. Please let us know if you have any recommendations!
Attached is a form from the PTA—if you have not yet joined the PTA and/or donated money towards class parties and would like to, please fill out and return this form. Thanks so much!
If you have not yet returned the signed copy of the discipline policy, please send it in as soon as possible. If you need another copy, please let your child’s teacher know.
