Installing EZ Mapper

1.  The ZIP file should be extracted to a directory called EZMapper. This will create subdirectories called Data, EZ_Install, Layerfiles, and Layouts. It will create 2 files called EZ Mapper.doc and EZ_preferences.txt. The EZ_Install directory should be accessible only to the administrator. The Data, Layerfiles, and Layouts directories should be accessible to all users. The Data directory will have 3 subdirectories called Raster, Tabular, and Vector. The .zip file extraction will have created Tabular and Vector but not the Raster directory. The administrator must create this directory manually.

2.  The install should be completed once for each individual user’s machine (unless using a Citrix server). The data, however, may be served from a central server.

3.  The EZ Mapper.doc document will help the user to become acquainted with the program tools and introduce the administrator to some basic concepts of what EZ Mapper is. The administrator doing the install should read through the Introduction, Maintenance, and Data Accessed sections prior to attempting the install. The Preferences File section would be useful reading, as well, in order to aid in supporting the users.

4.  The Data directory within the EZMapper directory contains the data for Montana. This data should be replaced by the data for the administrating state. This data is made available for testing purposes and data format examples only. The required data sets need to be in shapefile format. The required data: county, gnis place, twn, pls, district, etc need to be located in \data\vector. The required data tables: class.dbf and meridian.dbf need to be located in \data\tabular.

5.  After you set up the EZMod directory, you may need to redirect the .lyr files to the new directory path. They currently point to the D:\EZMapper directory. Add the layer files to ArcMap. For each layer, go to Properties>Source>SetSourceData. Set the data source to the correct shapefile in \data\vector. Left click on the layer, Save as layer file and then overwrite the corresponding .lyr file in \layerfiles. Try to keep track so you overwrite the correct one. You will only have to do this once, to set up the EZMod directory.

6.  To start the install, double click on the setup.exe in the EZ_Install directory.

7.  Upon completion of the install, the EZ Mapper application is ready to be run. The Preferences File section of the EZ Mapper.doc document describes the process of setting up user’s preferences. The EZ_preferences.txt file is an example of a user’s preferences. This sample file may be copied to each user’s home directory as a base starting point. However, the directories where the data is located, may need to be changed. This may be accomplished through the use of a text editor software (e.g. Word, Notepad).
