Downtown Landscape Request for Bids

Proposed Geographic Areas:

-Sycamore Street from Marlowe Park to the Bridge

-Area around the museum, and parking lot, except for the herb beds on the west and north sides of the lot

-North and south sides of the square, including the areas in the parking lot behind Subway

Yearly Contract Services:

Routine Maintenance / -Cutting and edging grass, weedeating
-Pruning shrubs (shade trees not included) as needed to maintain shape and form
-Weeding flower and shrub beds; maintaining perennials and liriope, including deadheading
-Trimming around museum a/c unit
-Leaf blowing sidewalks, street gutters, and parking lots weekly
Marlowe Park / -Grass maintenance only (ornamental plants maintained by Garden Club)
Pre-Emergent / To be completed within first two weeks of March, and first 2 weeks of September
-Grassed areas 2x/year with 0-0-7 (non-fertilizer containing) product
-Shrub, flower beds,2x/year with product approved for use around ornamentals, center medians 2x/year with product formulated for sedge
Turf Fertilization / -Initial fertilization first week of May, or when turf is 50% green. Weed and feed may be used if an abundance of cool season weeds areevident.

Hanging Baskets
(Approximately May 1 through October 1) / - Purchase of 6 - 4” annuals per planter (16) and planting mix; plant species to be chosen by City

-Fertilization 2x/year with slow release fertilizer for annuals

Monthly Invoiced Services:

ANNUALS / All plant species to be chosen by City
Small mulched beds in side medians (5) / -total of 100 - 4” annuals to be purchased, and to be distributed and planted within the mulched beds 2x/year, once with warm weather annuals, once with cool season annuals
-fertilization 4x/year (1x at planting, 1x 90 days later) with a time release fertilizer formulated for annual color production
-mulching 2x/year, at time of planting
-weeding as needed
-pre-emergent covered under contracted services
Planters / Planters are located in front of the museum (2), in front of Regions bank (1), north side of square (2), in front of Jefferson Café on southside
-total of 100 - 4” annuals to be purchased, and to be distributed and planted within planters 2x/year
-pre-emergent not required
-to be maintained in accordance with bed annuals, above
WATERING / Cost Each Time
Watering pertains to annual flower beds, planter boxes, hanging pots, and new plantings.
-Deep watering (to the depth of 1” minimum soil saturation) is expected to take place 3x/week in all areas specified above, in the absence of 1” or more of rain per week.
MULCH / Total Cost
Early spring only
-Installation includes all locations within the described geographic area, including Marlow Park, with undyed hardwood mulch
-Annual flower beds and planters to be exempt from mulching
OTHER / Details / Cost Each Time
Mulched center medians (2) / -Herbicides required for control of sedge in these beds may be applied as needed and billed as an invoiced service
Insect/Disease on Shrubs/Ornamentals / -In the event of the presence of insects or disease on shrubs, trees, perennials, annuals, or other ornamentals, the City Arborist must be notified and provide approval prior to the application of any chemical treatment / Cost to be determined based upon approved treatment

One Time Costs:

Current Shrub Replacement / To replace 20 shrubs that have died on the North and South sides of the square:
-Species to be approved by City
-Minimum 3 gallon container and must comply with ANSI top grade standards
-To include plant material, installation, and watering
Future Plant Replacement / - Must be approved prior to existing plant removal
-To be in accordance to above replacement requirements / Cost to be determined at time of replacement

**Please note that any plants that die due to lack of watering or inappropriate application of pesticides, herbicides, other chemicals, or damage that is incurred through contractor actions will require replacement at contractor’s expense.
