CHS P&S STAFF SUPPORT COMMITTEE

Agenda- Tuesday, Jan. 25

2:00 p.m., 331 Palmer

1.  Approval of 12/10/10 Minutes

·  Committee members saw the minutes via email on Dec. 20, 2010. Minutes were motioned to be approved by Denise Williams; Tera Lawson seconded; all voted in favor to approve the December minutes.

·  Members present: Chair Marsha Wissink, Sharon Wirth, Tera Lawson, Ann Bugler, Laura Dillavou, Deanna Bechtel, Denise Williams, Dawn Risdal, and Breanna Wetzler. Not in attendance were Annette Jaehrling, Mari Kemis, and Tami Corcoran.

2.  Human Development & Family Studies – Dawn Risdal

·  Dawn Risdal hosted the committee in 0331 Palmer. She explained the three undergraduate and one graduate major in the Human Development and Family Studies department.

·  The largest major is Child, Adult, and Family Services. Next is Early Childhood Education, which is shared with Curriculum and Instruction. The third undergrad major is Family Finance, Housing, and Policy, which will be moving to more of a focus on personal and family finance in the upcoming year. The graduate major is Human Development and Family studies.

·  HDFS is also home to the Lab School, which is used for observation and practicum by ChFS and ECE students; the Financial Counseling Clinic; and the Couples and Family Therapy Clinic. The CFT graduate program is no longer accepting applicants, but the clinic will continue to stay open until the current students complete their program of study.

·  Dawn reported that staff in HDFS work for the Child Welfare Project or the Lab School.

3.  P&S Council Update

·  Amy Delashmutt could not attend our meeting today. She had emailed the committee two documents/policies that were discussed. The university P&S Council voted in support new Effort reporting policy (http://policy.iastate.edu/policy/effort). They also voted in support of the new Extra-Meritorious Performance Pay Policy. The Council discussed the new fee changes for faculty and staff at Lied, Beyer, and State gyms.

5.  Invitation to Dean White – possible agenda?

·  With the retirement of Corly Brooke, the P&S Staff Support committee is in need of an ex-officio from the Dean’s office/college administration. Dean Pamela White volunteered to attend our meetings on an as-needed basis. The committee was in favor of this and will invite her to the next meeting, Feb. 22 in N166 Lago.

·  To maximize the time the committee has with Dean White, a tentative agenda was discussed:

·  Updates on budget

·  Her feedback on the “Response to Key Concerns” document

·  Campus climate and working relations between the faculty and staff

·  Possible brown bag forum with all college P&S staff later in the spring
