Shawn R. McGee awarded the 2014 Independent Banker of the Year
The Independent Banks of South Carolina distinguishes leadership in community banking annually with this award.
Columbia, SC - August 7, 2014: Mr. Shawn R. McGee, President of The Peoples Bank, in Anderson and Iva, SC, was named Independent Banker of the Year by the Independent Banks of South Carolina (IBSC) at the IBSC Convention on July 25, 2014, at the Wild Dunes Resort on the Isle of Palms.
The Independent Banker of the Year is selected from the 32 independent banks in South Carolina. The honor is awarded annually on the basis of outstanding service to the independent banking industry and to the local community.
Shawn R. McGee joined The Peoples Bank in 1980 as a teller, after graduating from Furman University. He has remained at The Peoples Bank throughout his banking career and has been the President and CEO of The Peoples Bank since 1996.
Mr. McGee has worked tirelessly to ensure the success and growth of the community banking industry and served on the Independent Banks of South Carolina Association Board of Directors for many years. He served as IBSC President from 2006 to 2007.
His board service extends beyond banking into the community. Mr. McGee serves as the President of the Greater Anderson Musical Arts Consortium, on the Anderson University Board of Trust, the Anderson County Board of Education, the Foundations Board of AnMed Health Medical Center, the Anderson Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the President of the Greater Anderson Rotary Club. He is also very active in his church, First Baptist Church of Iva where he serves as the Chairman of the Deacons and on several committees.
The Independent Banks of South Carolina is an association of 32 locally owned and operated banks in South Carolina, which promotes the interests and general welfare of the independent banks within the state.
