  • Accepted adjunct professorship.
  • Action: Jenny to add this info to our website.

5)Faculty/Staff Awards
  • Office staff is compiling award information to track and process nomination applications.
  • Monica Theis volunteers to work with Scott for Classified Staff.
  • Please email Jenny with other award information to keep track of deadlines and contact information.
6)MIU
  • Decision in Feb/March.
7)Office furniture update
  • $45,000 approved by Executive Committee.
  • Working with Kari Hillard and CALS to fit the offices.
  • Monica’s office will be used as a template.

  1. Vice Chair Reports
  • Undergrad (Theis)
  • New senior course. The Social Side of Food. 10 undergrads in FS will be meeting to design the course. This will be a student designed course. Monica Theis will be teaching this.
  • Louisa Hays has been working on critical thinking work.
  • Hartel and Theis will be presenting at IFT this summer about the Senior Subject Course.
  • If interested please see Monica Theis to add input.
  • Graduate (Theis)
  • B. Ingham and Theis working on revamping Seminar.
  • Will start Seminar with training.
  • No formal practice seminars this year.
  • Goals of bringing unity to the department and students.
  • New date: Mondays at Noon – light refreshments will be served.
  • Faculty/Staff are encouraged to attend.
  • Goals and Initiatives (S. Ingham)
  • Next Goals & Initiatives Meeting Jan. 20.
  • ½ Retreat on Jan. 7, 2011, was a success.
  • Action: Steve and Jenny working on compiling notes from Jan. 7, 2011 Retreat Event.

  1. Potential Big-10 collaboration for distance-teaching graduate food science courses (information only)
  • Discussion of Big 10 collaborative document.
  • MN and Purdue are currently doing this.
  • This is especially import because of the growing numbers of undergrads majoring in Food Science in all these schools.
  • The agreement is if your students have the options to take classes, you will have to offer a class for the other schools to take.

  • Admin Staff Meeting Monthly
  • Working on Department Newsletter.
  • Hall Monitor Update: the work order has been submitted to the Physical Plant. Please see Paul for items to be displayed.
  • Glass display case: Glass shelves being installed today. For exhibit “History of Babcock Hall”
  • Beginning to track faculty/staff awards.
  • Website: Waiting for CALS to share new template to update our current pages. Meeting again at the end of Jan. Working to update all the current information. Please send all corrections to our current website to Paul.
  • Sunshine Committee: Jan. 25, 2011, event. Working on inviting everyone in Babcock Hall. Currently inviting FSC and CDR to join the committee.
