HOW TO SPECIFYFRPICERTIFICATION
The Fiberglass Reinforced Plastics Institute (“FRPI”) thanks you for your interest in specifying Certified Laminates manufactured by Certified Laminating Processes. Your support of FRPI’s mission through writing specifications requiring Certification will help you and our industry improve the safe, reliable and economic performance of custom manufactured Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (“FRP”) process equipment.
Suggested language for typical Construction Standards Institute (CSI) specification section editing is as follows:
PART 1GENERAL:
1.1Submittals –
A.A copy of the Manufacturer’s unexpired FRPI Laminating Process Certification certificate, with registered Certificate Number.
B.Provide all submittals as also required and published in FRPI SP9100, Standard Practice for Laminate Certification.
C.Provide copies of the following interim approval letters and final Certification issued to the Manufacturer by FRPI:
1.Submittal approval letter, covering SP9100 1.4 D thru K submittals (Project summary, calculations, drawings, laminate specification, Postcure procedure, corrosion barrier suitability statement, submittal compliance statement)
2.Submittal approval letter, covering SP9100 1.4 L thru O submittals (Product cutouts inspection and testing, inspection reports, operation and maintenance manual, notice of delivery)
3.Laminate Certification certificate, with registered Certificate Number
1.2Reference Standards –
A.Fiberglass Reinforced Plastics Institute (“FRPI”):
1.FRPI SP9000, Standard Practice for Laminating Process Certification.
2.FRPI SP9100, Standard Practice for Laminate Certification.
3.“CONTACT FRPI FOR SUITABLE LAMINATE SPECIFICATION, THEN ADD LAMINATE SPECIFICATION SERIES REFERENCE NUMBER AND NAME PROVIDED BY FRPI HERE”
1.3Quality Assurance –
A.The equipment manufacturer shall supply equipment laminated by an FRPI Certified Laminating Process and supply FRPI Certified Laminates in accordance with FRPI SP9000, SP9100 and ”ADD LAMINATE SPECIFICATION SERIES REFERENCE NUMBER PROVIDED BY FRPI HERE”. A Manufacturer’s Laminating Process is considered to be Certified when and only if the Manufacture’s company name is posted on the FRPI website (
1.4Manufacturers Services –
A.The Manufacturer shall provide the services of their Shop Inspector for field inspection of the equipment supplied, as required by FRPI SP9100. This inspection must be performed after equipment installation and field hydro testing. Independent Sales Representatives shall not be considered as substitutes for Shop Inspectors unless they meet the requirements for Third Party Inspectors, as published in FRPI SP9100. The Shop or Third Party Inspector’s work will be considered complete once the FRPI Certified Labels are applied at the installation site to the equipment inspected, the inspection report is sent to FRPI for approval and FRPI issues final Laminate Certification to the Manufacturer per FRPI SP9100.
PART 2PRODUCTS:
2.1Fiberglass Equipment –
A.All equipment shall be fabricated with FRPI Certified laminates by a Manufacturer that has an FRPI Certified Laminating Process, per FRPI SP9000 and SP9100.
2.2Laminate Materials and Fabrication –
A.All equipment components shall be laminated with FRPI Certified laminates by a Manufacturer that has an FRPI Certified Laminating Process, per FRPI SP9000 and SP9100.
B.All equipment components shall meet the requirements of FRPI ”ADD LAMINATE SPECIFICATION SERIES REFERENCE NUMBER PROVIDED BY FRPI HERE”.
2.3Shop Inspection and Testing –
A.All Shop Inspection and Testing shall also include the requirements of FRPI SP9000 and SP9100.
PART 3EXECUTION:
3.1Physical Checkout and Installation –
A.Manufacturers services shall also be provided in accordance with FRPI SP9100, as referenced above.

- It is recommended to have your specifications reviewed by FRPI to be sure Laminates specified are Certifiable.
