PRESS RELEASE - CHICAGO

Dates from Hell

By Scott Woldman

Directed by Nate Silver

Opens Friday, May 31, 10:30pm

Dates from Hell is the inaugural play of Redtwist’s new late-night comedy series called Dark Red. New resident playwright, Scott Woldman, has written a “Luv Cycle” starting with the moment a couple meet, and following them all the way through their courtship, engagement, break-up, make-up, marriage, family, divorce, dating, and remarriage.

There have been loads of love stories and reams of romantic comedies BUT there has never been anything quite like Scott’s “Luv Cycle”

Dates from Hell features some of the finest young actors is Chicago, and it is directed by Nate Silver, fresh from his success with Jackalope Theatre’s Rich and Famous.

PLAY

The first installment, Dates from Hell, of playwright Scott Woldman’s “Luv Cycle” features a rollercoaster ride through the rocky realm of relationships. This first phase of the cycle examines the many ways a simple date can turn into a complicated mess.

PLAYWRIGHT

Scott Woldman is a Senior Network Playwright at Chicago Dramatists. His world-premiere drama, Beaten, will open this summer at the Artistic Home. As Resident Playwright for Redtwist, Scott is writing a series of plays documenting the quirky, comedic, and complicated sequence of a romantic human relationship. We are calling this sequence the “Luv Cycle” starting with Dates from Hell and progressing throughout the upcoming 2013-2014 season.

Scott is also the Resident Playwright at the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre in Arlington Heights where he wrote the plays for the Metropolis’s incredibly popular After Dark series (more than 30,000 people have seen Scott’s Metropolis shows!), including Men Exposed, Dinner for Sex, Dates from Hell and Speed Dating The Musical. Scott’s work has also appeared at Stage Left Theatre, The Artistic Home, The Second City, Chicago Dramatists, Strangeloop Theatre, Third Eye Theatre, and Ourobos Theatre Company. Scott has also optioned two screenplays--The Mine, a horror film, which will be in movie theaters in limited release the summer of 2013, and Drunk And Ready, which begins production in 2013.
