PowerPoint 2007

The most commonly used features (such as inserting a new slide and formatting text and images) are located on the Home tab. Familiarize yourself with the items on the Home tab first!

To use one of the built-in themes, go to the Design tab, Theme group. You can preview the available themes by simply pointing on them with the mouse.

You can easily modify a theme by clicking on Colors, Fonts, and/or Effects.

Add items (such as pictures, images, shapes, hyperlinks, textboxes, WordArt, movies, and sounds) from the Insert tab.

Transitions and animations can be added from the Animations tab. “Mouse-over” the options to see the effects.

You can easily insert text into shapes. From the Insert Tab, Illustrations Group, Choose Shapes.

Select the shape you would like

Click on the shape to select it, and then click on Text Box. When you begin typing the text will appear in the shape!

Record short comments on a slide. You will need to attach a microphone to do this.

Select the slide that will have the comment. Click the Insert tab, then the Sound down-arrow. Select Record Sound. The Record Sound dialog box will appear.

Click the red dot when you are ready to record. When finished click the square. Click OK when finished.

Inserting Video

Select the slide that will contain the video.

Click the Insert tab, then theMovie down-arrow. Select Movie from Clip Organizer if you want to use a Microsoft video, or select Movie from file if you would like to use a video you have saved to your computer.

Using SmartArt

SmartArt can be used to add graphic organizers to your presentation. From the Insert tab, click SmartArt.

Categories include:

  • List (to make a normal bulleted list artistic)
  • Process (shows a step-by-step relationship)
  • Cycle (shows a circular relationship)
  • Hierarchy (shows a leveled relationship)
  • Relationship (shows a variety of related items, one being a Venn diagram)
  • Matrix (shows a relationship of parts to a whole)
  • Pyramid (shows a pyramid-shaped relationship)

Saving to a CD

Click the Office Button, click Publish, and select Package for CD.

Enter a name for the CD in the dialog box.

Click Add files if you wish to add any other files to the CD.

If you want to include the PowerPoint viewer (so you can send to others who may not have PowerPoint), click Options.

Click Copy to CD to burn the files to a CD. If you have linked files, you will be asked if you want to include them in the package. You’ll be asked to insert a CD.
