SURVIVOR: CANADA

The successful reality TV show SURVIVOR has just wrapped up its filmingfor this season and television producers have decided that Canada will host the next season. Knowing that Canada is ecologically and culturally diverse, it has become a difficult decision for producersto decide where exactlyin Canada to run the show.

TASK: You have been hired by the show’s TV producers to create a proposal that will convince them to host the next SURVIVOR show in a specific ECOZONE in Canada.

STEP ONE

You need to provide TV producers with some background information about your ecozone. Conduct research on your ecozone using information from the internet, your textbook and any other resources you can think of. Be sure to name and briefly describe the LANDFORM REGION(S) that are found within your ecozone.There are 7 Landform Regions in Canada (Innuitian Mountains, Arctic and Hudson Bay Lowlands, Western Cordillera, Interior Plains, Canadian Shield, Great Lakes – St. Lawrence Lowland, Appalachians). Record all your information in the organizer provided.

STEP TWO

Give the new Survivor show a name (i.e. Survivor Mixedwood Plains) and

create a logoon a full sheet of paper.

STEP THREE

Come up with 2 Survivor Challenges.

There are two tribes or “teams” on the SURVIVOR reality show that compete in challenges in order to win $1 Million. The challenges that you come up with must reflect the unique physical characteristicsand human activities of your ecozone. Record your challenges on the organizer provided.

STEP FOUR

Create a Power Point presentation that you will present to the producers that will outline all the important information about your ecozone and 2 possible Survivor challenges. It must follow the following format:

Slide 1: Title(must include your new show name), Logo, Group Member Names

Slide 2: Map of Canada (with your ecozone highlighted)

Slide 3: Provinces and cities within your ecozone (include some images)

Slide 4: Landforms found in your ecozone (names and images), which Landform Region(s) are found

within your ecozone boundaries (names and a map outlining where Landform Region(s) are

located in Canada)

Slide 5: Climate that is typical of your ecozone (2 images with description), create a climate graph for

your ecozone like the ones we have done in class (include annual precipitation amount,

temperature range, average temperature, continental or maritime with explanation)

Slide 6: Vegetation that is typical of your ecozone (2 images with description)

Slide 7:Wildlife that is typical of your ecozone (2 images with description)

Slide 8: Natural resource(s) or business activities typical of your ecozone (1 image with description)

Eg. mining or farming

Slide 9: Fun human activities of your ecozone (2 images with description) Eg. skiing in mountains

Slides 10-11: Your 2 Survivor Challenges (explanations and images for both)

Slide 12: A summary of why you feel your ecozone is the ideal setting for the next Survivor series

STEP FIVE

Oral Presentation

You are to give a minimum 3 minute presentation to the class. You will communicate to the class which ecozone you have researched and you will provide an explanation of your 2 Survivor challenges.
