Department CPR Findings:
Document review and interviews indicate that there is no district code of conduct for teachers. The student handbook does not contain procedures for the discipline of students with Section 504 Accommodation Plans, and the nondiscrimination policy is missing the required protected category of gender identity. Furthermore, the student handbook does contain a procedure for accepting, investigating, and resolving complaints alleging sexual harassment but this procedure does not address the discrimination and harassment of students based on race, color, national origin, sex, gender identity, religion, or sexual orientation.
Description of Corrective Action:
Administrative Team will develop code of conduct for teachers.
Principal and Handbook Committee will amend student handbook to include procedures for discipline for students with 504 plans, to also include the protected category of gender identity.
The Administrative Team will develop a step-by-step procedure to address the discrimination or harassment of students based on race, color, national origin, sex, gender identity, religion, sexual orientation or homelessness.

The district stated it will develop a code of conduct for teachers. Procedures for the discipline of students with Section 504 Accommodation Plans, and a nondiscrimination policy that includes the protected category of gender identity will be developed and added to the student handbook. Also, the district stated it will develop a procedure to address complaints involving the discrimination or harassment of students based on race, color, national origin, sex, gender identity, religion, or sexual orientation and submit copies of relevant sections of the student handbook demonstrating that the district's new procedures have been updated.
Department Order of Corrective Action:
The district will also need to submit as evidence: (a) the school committee agenda and meeting minutes to document the adoption of the protected category of gender identity in the nondiscrimination policy, and (b) a copy of the agenda and staff attendance sheet, with staff signature and role, documenting that all staff have been trained on the district's new policies and procedures as they relate to CR 10A.
