KNF Preparedness Level 4

Weather:

Afternoon temperatures will continue to stay in the upper 80’s to 90’s for the next week. Afternoon winds will develop each day, especially on Wednesday and over the weekend. Afternoon high temperatures will “cool” by a couple degrees each day starting Wednesday and over the weekend. There is the potential for a low pressure system to move through the area this weekend which may bring a few scattered thunderstorms through the weekend and in to early next week.

Fire Danger Rating:VERYHIGH

Fires start easily from all causes and, immediately after ignition, spread rapidly and increase quickly in intensity. Spot fires are a constant danger. Fires burning in light fuels may quickly develop high intensity characteristics such as long-distance spotting and fire whirlwinds when they burn into heavier fuels.

Fire Restrictions: The Kootenai National Forest will go to Stage 1 restrictions Friday July 27th at 0001. Under Stage 1 Restrictions, the following acts are prohibited:

1)Building, maintaining, attending or using a campfire except within a developed recreation site or improved recreation site. Fires solely fueled by liquid petroleum or LPG Fuels are authorized in areas that are barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding flammable materials within three (3) feet of the device.

2)Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or burning, a developed recreation site or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials.
