Fahrenheit 451 Final Project Options Due:______

Choose one of the following projects:

Debate: Write a staged debate between Faber and Beatty. This script will include three people: Faber, Beatty, and a moderator who poses questions about today’s problems. Faber and Beatty should give solutions consistent with each character’s beliefs from the novel.

CD Soundtrack: Make your own soundtrack for the novel. Create a playlist of at least five songs in the order in which they would appear, and burn them to a CD. Then create a colorful CD jacket that illustrates the book (in your eyes). Type a list of the songs and artists, where each fits in the book (include page numbers), and explain the action occurring when the song would be playing. Then explain your reasoning for choosing your selection.

Board Game: Create a board game based on events and characters in the book. By playing your game, members of the class should learn what happened in the book. Your game must include the following: a game board, a rule sheet, and clear directions.

Conversation with the Author: In The Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield describes a good book as one that “when you’re done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it.” Imagine that Ray Bradbury, the author, is a terrific friend of yours. Write out an imaginary telephone conversation between the two of you in which you discuss the books and other things as well.

Front Page Project: You will publish the first page of a newspaper that exists in Montag’s society. The newspaper may exist in the mainstream society of 451, or may be an underground publication. All articles must be typed and placed in columns and include the following elements:

·  Masthead (paper’s name, date, address, volume, issue, and cost)

·  Headlines for each story

·  One main story (taken from anything that happens in the book) that completely fills the space you’ve given it in the layout.

·  Photos or quality drawings (with captions) that accompany the main story

·  Teasers about what else may be in the paper

·  At least one opinion piece

·  Ad boxes

Diary Project: Create Montag’s diary, which includes entries of his adventures after the novel has ended. Your diary must include at least five full-page entries, which start when he and the outcasts enter the destroyed city. Describe his adventures using strong voice and attention to detail. Include a date for each entry, and show knowledge of the story by alluding to action in the novel. The diary should be bound as a book and must include a decorated cover.
