Job Description

Reports to: Senior Pastor

Direct Supervisor: Senior Pastor

Status:3-4 hours a week – during academic year

Possible infrequent evening/weekend meetings

FLSA Status:Non-exempt(Not eligible for overtime)

Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to support the mission of the church – “To Make And Mature Disciples of Jesus Christ For the Transformation Of The World” – though leading a music ministry with our elementary age children. This group usually numbers around a dozen or more children and they perform once a month and at holidays. The central job is to help children feel cared for, develop their singing ability, and experience being part of the larger church.

Essential Functions

  • Create a children’s choir experience where children feel valued, encouraged, and included.
  • Develop a curriculum that teaches children how to sing, how to behave when leading worship, introduces them to some simple musical instruments, and builds upon their talents.
  • Conduct choir practices on a weekly basis to develop skills.
  • Communicate with parents a calendar of routine and any special events.
  • Select music that fits with the liturgical season and theme of the day.
  • Promote participation in the Children’s music ministry.
  • Carry out any additional tasks as reasonably assigned by the Senior Pastor.

  • Desire to excel: Strong desire to enhance our shared ministry through the children’s music ministry; willingness to seek out and engage in appropriate training opportunities; production of work that inspires pride; consistent standard of pursuing excellence in all that you do.
  • Team Contributor: Active interest in and positive interaction with our paid church staff and volunteer ministry leaders a way that encourages others and elevates our shared ministry as a team.

Qualifications

  1. Musical ability and education of children.
  2. Significant positive prior experience performing in a similar position.
  3. Comprehension of our church mission and annual goals and willingness to actively work each day in support of them.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to see well and hear well in person and on the telephone.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs when needed.
