General Guidelines regarding CALM:

  1. Every student gets a unique question. The ID number is necessary to get you back to your specific question. Using another students ID # for a question will not get you to the correct question and will not earn you credit for a correct answer.
  2. I am very willing to assist you with CALM, but I need you to provide me with the following in order for me to help you with a specific question:
  3. You must bring me your CALM journal when you have a question.
  4. Your journal must include the topic, section, question number and ID number.
  5. Your journal must show the work you have done on the question.
  6. I will NOT help you with a CALM question if you don’t have work in your journal!
  7. Pay attention to units in your answers. Errors with these are common reasons an answer is not accepted.
  8. When answering with a word, you must spell it correctly.
  9. When putting an answer in scientific notation, you do not use “x 10”. For example, to enter 6.022 x 1023, you would type 6.022e23.
  10. You may work together on CALM problems, but remember each student has a unique problem and the answer for 1 students problem, will not work for another student. This way you can talk about HOW to solve the problem, but you cannot copy another person’s work!
  11. I would suggest you do the TUTORIAL before you do your 1st assignment. One portion of the tutorial shows you how to enter numbers in scientific notation, how to enter symbols for nuclear particles…
  12. Please let me know if you do not have access to the Internet at home so we can work out how best to provide the CALM assignments to you. I can print it out for you, but that eliminates the option of knowing that you got the question wrong and then doing it again. You are always welcome to work on CALM in the library, when open during study hall.
