LEEDS TRINITY & ALL SAINTS, Horsforth will celebrate its Patronal feast day next Fri, 31st Oct with Mass in the Chapel, celebrated by the Bishop, at 2.15pm. Afternoon tea follows. There’ll be tours of the campus for those who wish. The afternoon will start at 1pm with the inaugural lecture of the recently appointed Professor of Theology, the Rev’d Matthew Steenberg, who will be speaking on “Fallen man or exiled son? Voices from antiquity on ‘original sin’ in the twenty first century.” Leeds Trinity is seeking to develop its links with the diocese and all who attend will be made to feel most welcome. NOVEMBER is the month traditionally associated with prayer for the Holy Souls. Masses will be offered throughout the year for those whose names are on the Dead List. Envelopes are available for this purpose at the back of the Cathedral. They may be returned in the offertory collection bags, through Cathedral House letterbox or given to one of the priests, deacons or sisters.

AN ICON OF ST PAUL: will be blessed and enthroned on the THE FEAST OF ALL SAINTSnext Sun, 2nd Nov. at the 11am Mass. This Icon of St Paul has been donated by the Society of St Paul to help us celebrate and pray through the Year of St Paul. At this Mass we shall also welcome the KNIGHTS OF ST COLUMBA for their annual MemorialMass.

A 30 WEEK PILGRIMAGE OF PRAYER WITH ST PAUL:

Step 1: Please observe silence for at least two minutes asking the Holy Spirit to meet you where you are at this moment.

Step 2: Pray the prayer: Most Holy Spirit, come into every part of my being and make it a temple for Jesus Christ, to the glory of the Father. Pray for me, Saint Paul to be a worthy instrument of the Gospel. Amen.

Step 3: Read God's word from Saint Paul or the Acts of the Apostles. Philippians 3:14-18. You may repeat quietly what you have read once or twice.

Step 4: Meditate on the word, words or phrases and sentences that touched you.

Step 5: Ask the Holy Spirit to help you put into action what He wants of you today.

Step 6: If you have a prayer journal, write some your reflection and action in it at the close of the day.

YEAR OF ST PAUL: a pilgrimage to Damascus and Antioch in the steps of St Paul will take place from 20th – 28th September 2009. ALL SOULS DAYthis year is on Mon 3rd Nov. The 5.30pm Mass will be a sung Requiem Mass for the Faithful Departed.

COFFEE IS SERVEDin Wheeler Hall (next door to the Cathedral, accessed via St Anne’s Street) each Sunday after the 11am Mass. All welcome, especially visitors and those who are new to the Cathedral.

MGR MOGER will be installed as an Ecumenical Canon of Ripon Cathedral on Sunday 9th November, during Evensong in that Cathedral at 5.30pm. All are welcome to attend. Light refreshments follow.

THIS YEAR’S CATHEDRAL LECTURES carry the theme of “Why listen to the Catholic Church today” developed through this statement, “Christians now find their fundamental beliefs frequently attacked by atheists, and their values challenged by an avowedly secular and post-Christian culture. The aim of the lectures is to restore contact with the distinctive content of the Catholic Faith, its theological and philosophical strengths and the intellectual traditions that sustained and developed it in previous years.” The lectures continue on Wed 12th Nov with Professor John Haldane, ending with Fr Thomas Crean OP on Dec 17th. The lectures will take place in Wheeler Hall at 7.00pm. See the notice board at the back of the Cathedral.

THE DIOCESAN MARRIAGE PREPARATION PROGRAMME needs people who wish to support engaged couples as they prepare for marriage. The programme was reviewed and updated in 2003 and has continued to be a valued resource for all those in the diocese who use it in their ministry to engaged couples. The course will be held on the following Saturdays – 1st/November, 22nd November and 6th December 2008, from 10.30am until 3.30pm, at Wheeler Hall. Please contact Rev. JOURNEY into FAITH: Perhaps you have been going to Mass for a while and are considering becoming a Catholic, perhaps you want to be baptised, or you’ve been baptised but not confirmed. This programme will help you under-stand more about the Catholic Faith. The next session lasting approx. 1 hour will take place on Tues11th Nov at 6.30pm in Wheeler Hall.
