CV OF MR.PUREVKHUU LUVSAN, SENIOR RESEARCHER-SCIENTIFIC WORKER AT EMERGENCY SERVICE RESEARCH INSTITUTE,

NATIONAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY, MONGOLIA

MY PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE ON THE TOPIC OF

“AGENT BASED MODELING FOR COMPLEX SPATIAL SYSTEMS”

I have took into my hand “FIRE SAFETY SCIENCE-PROCEEDINGS OF THE FIFTH INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM” book first in 1997 which is collection of the papers of this symposium hold by the International Association for Fire Safety Science when I had worked as Senior fire inspector of Building blue print check division at the Fire Fighting Department of Mongolia.

From here I have acquainted with the “SIMULEX” AND “EXODUS” soft wares which are developed to model an evacuation in Complex Spatial Systems e.g. Multi-Story Buildings. I followed its developments. In 2000 Building EXODUS V3 became available on the world market but it price is too high for us UK£4000 Level 2, UK£2000 Level 1

We are trying to develop in Windows environment our own such kind of software which would be compatible with the auto CAD and use it for Multi story Department store of Ulaanbaatar to model an evacuation in it.

I had worked as a mentor in the project titled “Flood risk analysis of capital city Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia” funded by ProVention Here we used satellite map of Ulaanbaatar and using ArcView we developed topographical relief map of the city. Then we were able to identify the flood prone areas of the city.

I am familiar with the GIS and ESRI products Repast software etc. I use Google earth software so I can have a satellite map of any part of the Mongolia.

Domestic animal epidemics used to occur frequently such as foot and mouth disease In Mongolia. The virus of foot and mouth disease is found in wild gazelle flocks by the recent research. Now we are trying to track how to contact wild gazelle flocks with the domestic animal and pass the disease. Here we try to use Agent based modeling and GIS data. We will develop a project on it and try to find a sponsor.

I visit frequently a gis.com, esri.com, worldmap.com etc websites. I have downloaded Arcreader 9.2 from gis.com. I am familiar with the Globalmapper software.

Our Institute is working on risk assessment for different industries and local territories. Our capital city Ulaanbaatar’s population is almost 1 million. Over 60% of the population live in circle shaped tent is called gher. Ghers are vulnerable to every kind of disaster and it use a fire wood and a coal to heat by burning the wood and coal in the iron stove inside of the gher in winter. In that way they produce lot of smoke. The air pollution is disastrous in Ulaanbaatar. On the other hand when flood occur in Ulaanbatar the ghers used float on the surface of water for a while then collapse. These kind of risk reduction issue has a top priority in Ulaanbaatar. We are now studying how many ghers need to move to another place in order to reduce a flood risk and air pollution by certain percent. In order to determine it, we prepare to use agent based modeling for it.

Mongolia is still in transition period from command economy to market economy. We have a difficulties to fund an above mentioned research works.
