CULTURE AND HOLIDAY PROJECT

(DUE: FRIDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2017)

Interview:

1. Write at least three interview questions to ask a person about your

Holiday (a family member, staff member, or person in your group who knows about the holiday)

2. Interview that person and record all answers

3. Write a paragraph that includes your questions and the responses of the

person you interviewed (may be typed or handwritten)

Research:

Research and gather examples the of elements of your holiday (Include: food,

music, art, dance, language, celebrations, family structure, other cultural

traditions and characteristics)

Complete:

World Map: Mark the country or region that your holiday is celebrated in.

Create:

A written report that includes (Can be 4 pages handwritten or 2 pages typed):

• A cover page

• Your interview paragraph

• Research on elements of your culture (NOTE: Can includewritten information as well as pictures with captions)

• World Map

Present:

1. Prepare an oral presentation of your work. Be sure to practice it wellbefore the day it is due (HINT: You may want to use note cards to helpyou remember important information).

2. Make your presentation interesting by bringing in actual examples from

your holiday. These can include, but are not limited to:

• A music CD that we can listen to

• A short video clip from YouTube

• A poster collage of pictures related to your holiday like pictures you have printed from the Internet orcopied from a book

• Food samples for students to try (NOTE: WCSD requires thatall food be nut-free)

• Dressing in traditional clothing

 December 4 – 8: Put my written report together:

 Write final draft of my interviewparagraph

 Print or copy pictures that show myculture

 Create a cover page for my report

 Long periods in November and December: Complete other parts of my presentation

(Choose at least three) including:

 Finding music and thinking about how to present it

 Finding a video

 Making a poster that illustrates my holiday

 Choose the cultural food I want to bring

 Choose clothing I want to wear

 Choose another presentation method

 December Long periods: Practice my oral presentation:

 I will talk about my project – not read it

 I can use note cards if I need to

 December 15 bring my project to school

 December 15 Turn in my project - It is due today!

 Week before winter break: Give my Oral Presentation
