CROSSROADS: UNCW Substance Abuse Prevention & Education Program

The CROSSROADS department in the Division of Student Affairs is hiring 5-hour and 20-hour graduate assistants for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Position #1- Conduct Interventions and Campus Education Programs (20 hours)

The responsibilities of this graduate assistant are:

  • Teaching Challenging Decisions. The graduate assistant will co-lead the classes for students who are part of the campus conduct system.This educational intervention for students is a small group class that focuses on motivation enhancement, harm reduction techniques, and personalized feedback.
  • Campus Prevention Programs. The position will assist the Assistant Director of CROSSROADS in providing campus programs intended to educate students about alcohol and other drug issues and influence perceptions, beliefs, and behavior to reduce high-risk drinking. Duties may include presentations for classrooms and student groups, assisting peer educators in planning and delivering educational programs, and facilitating educational programs.

Positions #2- Conduct Interventions and Evaluation and Assessment (20 hours)

The responsibilities of this graduate assistant are:

  • Teaching Challenging Decisions. The graduate assistant will co-lead the classes for students who are part of the campus conduct system..This educational intervention for students is a small group class that focuses on motivation enhancement, harm reduction techniques, and personalized feedback.
  • Individual Interventions. The graduate assistants will be responsible for several one-on-one services provided by the office. These include educational interventions for students who are found responsible for marijuana violations, individual feedback sessions with students found responsible for alcohol violations, and feedback and support of community members who want to stop using tobacco products.
  • This graduate assistant will also assist the professional staff in developing assessment instruments, compiling and analyzing statistical data, and preparing data for conference presentations and publications.
  • This graduate assistant will compile descriptive statistical reports for the Director of Substance Abuse & Violence Prevention about program effectiveness.

Position #3- Conduct Interventions (5 hours)

  • Teaching Challenging Decisions. The graduate assistant will co-lead the classes for students who are part of the campus conduct system.This educational intervention for students is a small group class that focuses on motivation enhancement, harm reduction techniques, and personalized feedback.

All graduate assistants will function as professional staff members by attending staff meetings, providing leadership to peer educators, and striving to enhance the scope and quality of our services.

Preference will be given to applications received by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2013.
