Role purpose

To provide a personal finance advice service to members of the public and related staff, undertake follow up work and/or signpost to specialist services. To represent Clients to creditors, other agencies or at Court. Design and deliver internal and external training. Represent One Manchester in external environments.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Provide financial advice and guidance across a broad range of personal finance issues, completing financial statements and referring to appropriate agencies
  • Provide advice and support to customers relating to eligibility for Welfare Benefits including Housing Benefit and Universal Credit, and signposting to specialist support providers where appropriate
  • Act as an advocate for clients when dealing with creditors, courts and in applications for grants and/or trust fund payments
  • Work closely with Income Officers to identify and assist those clients at risk of lacking financial capability to ensure One Manchester tenants are able to meet their financial obligations.
  • Design and deliver training courses and briefing sessions on money skills and welfare reform to groups of customers and staff
  • Participate in promotional and publicity activities including contributing to and attending money focussed events and neighbourhood events
  • Any other duties which are commensurate with the position and required by One Manchester

Critical knowledge, skills and experience required (must have)

  • IMA accreditation in money advice (or working towards)
  • Sound and up to date knowledge of debt advice
  • Able to provide personal financial advice and guidance
  • Knowledge and experience of provision of advice on benefits and tax credits including relevant legislation such as Welfare Reform Act 2012
  • Computer literate with experience of housing management systems and case management systems
  • Able to communicate in an appropriate manner with customers, stakeholders and colleagues.
  • Able to design and deliver training courses to internal and external clients
  • Flexible and mobile as some out of hours working across various locations may be required
  • Self motivated and able to work on own initiative to meet required deadlines
