Creating a Border and Title block
Objective:
The student will modify an existing AutoCAD standard border and title block by adjusting the drawing area to fit the limits of a specified plotter, add attribute definitions, and import a graphic into the title block.
Assignment:
Copy the file titleblock.dwg and ddlogo1.jpg to your working disk.
load AutoCAD and open the file titleblock.dwg.
Select the Plot option in the File pull-down menu. Configure the plotter for the #7_D104 plotter and the paper sizeto Arch C – 18 x 24 in. (landscdape). In the Plot Settings tab look for the value listed in the Printable Areasection and record this value below. This value will be the settings used in the limits command to establish the exactsize of the drawing area.
Printable area:
Cancel the plot operation and return to the drawing. Set the limits of the lower left corner to (0,0) and the limits ofthe upper right corner to the value listed above.
Set the GRID to 1/8 and the SNAP to 1/16.
Adjust the borders and title block to fit to the new limits.
After adjusting the size of the border lines set the PDMODE to 3 and divide the inside horizontal and vertical linesinto 8 parts using the DIVIDE command.
Reposition the letters, numbers, and arrows to the new locations defined by the divisions. Use the OSNAP optionNODE to snap to the division marks. You can realign one side of the border and use the MIRROR command toplace the text onto the other side.
Change the inside lines of the border to PLINE's with a width of 0.03 using the PEDIT command.
Delete the existing title block and use the title block created in Assignment #1. Insert the title block in the lowerright corner of the border. Use the EXPLODE command to disassemble the block.
Insert the graphic file ddlogo1.jpg into the drawing using the IMAGEATTACH command and place it into thedrawing area next to the title block. You can also use the RASTER IMAGE REFERENCE command in theINSERT bull down menu. Use the move command to move the image and the grips to resize the image.Be sure to place a copy of the image file into the grading folder.
Save the new drawing file and record the file name below.

Working with Raster Files
A raster file creates a picture or image using dots or pixels. Raster files usually are referred to as bitmaps. Some of the more common raster files are GIF (graphics interchange format), PCX (personal computer exchange), TIFF (tagged image file format), BMP (Bitmap), and JPEG (joint photographic experts group).
Raster images are inserted into AutoCAD drawings using the IMAGEATTACH command. Select the "Raster Image Reference" command in the "Insert" pull-down menu or type in the commandIMAGEATTACH at the command prompt. An "Select Image File" dialog box will load. Open the image file. The image name and current path are now displayed in the "Image" dialog box. Select the insertion point for the image, the scale, and the rotation angle.
The image appearance can be adjusted or modified using the "Modify" pull-down menu or using the commands IMAGECLIP, IMAGEADJUST, IMAGEQUALITY, TRANSPARENCY, and IMAGEFRAME.
IMAGECLIP: This command allows you to trim away a portion of the image. There are two types of clipping, rectangular and polygonal.
IMAGEADJUST: This command controls the brightness, contrast and fade values of the image.
IMAGEQUALITY: This command provides two options, high and draft. The high quality setting produces the best image display (High/Draft).
TRANSPARENCY: This command will allow the drawing to show through the image background for images that were created with a transparent background.
IMAGEFRAME: This command will place a frame around the image in the current layer, color, and linetype. There are three options, 0, 1, 2.

1 Setting
Image frames are both displayed and plotted. This setting is the default.
2 Setting
Image frames are displayed but not plotted.
