CIS224Y – Intro to Visual Basic.Net

Chapter Presentation Guidelines

  • There will be 6 homework assignments based upon 6 chapters in the textbook.
  • The assignment will be chosen by the student from one of the nine case studies at the end of the chapter.
  • These case studies are broken into sections:
  • Green – Easiest
  • Gold - More difficult
  • Blue - Most difficult.
  • Each section contains 3 case studies for a total of 9 case studies per chapter.
  • Students will be able to choose which of the 9 case studies per chapter that they wish to complete with the following restrictions:
  1. They must choose 1 from each section(Green,Gold,Blue) category over the course of the 6 chapters.
  2. In other words, of the 6 assignments submitted there must be 1 Green, 1 Gold and 1 Blue with the remaining 3 assignments being the choice of the student.
  3. Each student will present 1 case study to the class.
  4. The presentation case study must include 1 Gold case study.
  5. The presentation will be a VB 2008 application representing the outcome of the case study and will include a demo of the application and any discussion of the thought process to derive the application for the case study.
  6. Some case studies require additional information to be developed by the student (Use Case document, Event planning document, etc.); these will be presented to the class via a PowerPoint presentation, or as a Word or Excel document.
  • Registration for the presentation of a case study will be via the course message board.
  • There will be one topic posted for each of the 9 possible case studies for the chapter.
  • Students will signup for the case study presentation by posting a response to the case study topic.
  • NO MORE THAN TWO PRESENTATIONS PER CASE STUDY WILL BE ALLOWED. Therefore, if you want to present for a certain case study and you see that there are already two responses, you should not sign up for that presentation.
  • NO MORE THAN 3-4 PRESENTATIONS PER CHAPTER ALLOWED. This is to limit the number of presentations per night and also ensure that all chapters are presented. You will have to search the number of posts per chapter to insure that you are within the limit. This will be decided on a first come basis. In other words, if 5 people have posted for a particular chapter, the last person(s) to post (4th and 5th posts) will be removed and those students will have to select another chapter and case study.
