Job Purpose:To provide research, analysis and recommendationsto substantially increase the pool of fundraising prospects, maximising the opportunity for successful approaches among those who may wish to support AngliaRuskinUniversity.

Principal Accountabilities:

  1. Proactively execute research to identify, evaluate and recommend a pool of high net worth prospective donorswho might be interested in the work of Anglia Ruskin and make recommendations for relevant approaches.
  1. Work with the Development Manager (Trusts & Corporates) to identify appropriate trusts, foundations and corporations who may be interested in our work.
  1. Provide research and analysis of biographical, philanthropic, professional and financial information of individuals, company and foundation donors and prospects.
  1. Prepare written profiles of top level major prospects and qualified lists of potential supporters to support the cultivation of individuals.
  1. Prepare high quality, reports, briefings or presentations as required.
  1. Undertake ethical screening on new prospective supporters prior to the solicitation process, interpreting and presenting summary evidence concisely to the Head of Development & Alumni Relations.
  1. Monitor news and track existing donors and prospective donors and prepare alerts for their key events.
  1. Alert the Head of Development & Alumni Relations of any red flags in the ethical screening of prospective and current donors as soon as possible.
  1. Act as the main contact within the Development team for best practice on conducting due diligence and ethical screening, providing support to senior members of Anglia Ruskin, as required.
  1. Perform quantitative analysis, including income, assets, liabilities and giving patterns to determine each prospect’s potential and propensity to give.
  1. Prepare summary biographies for event guest lists when required.
  1. Develop relationships with colleagues internally to ensure co-ordination and communication about potential approaches across campus and ensure research supports Anglia Ruskin’s strategic fundraising priorities.
  1. Assist with the processing of donations and the handling cash and cheques, following appropriate finance procedures for the safe and timely deposit of monies.
  1. Undertake opportunities for cross-working with other members of Development & Alumni Relations as and when required, supporting their initiatives.
  1. Maintain awareness of industry developments and best practice in fundraising activities, undertaking training as required.
  1. Such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as may be reasonably required, commensurate with your grade.

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
  • Degree (qualifications below degree level will be considered if applicants can demonstrate relevant experience and evidence of continuing professional development in an appropriate area of activity.)

EXPERIENCE
  • Relevant experience in conducting complex prospect research and reporting findings
  • Writing effective proposals
  • Knowledge of a wide range of online research tools
  • Working with databases e.g. extracting information and reports
  • Working in a busy office environment.

  • Experience in the charity or Higher Education sector
  • Experience of having worked in a fundraising environment
  • Experience of Wealth Engine
  • Experience of using Raisers’ Edge

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
  • Able to prioritise own workload to meet agreed deadlines
  • Confidentiality and ethical gathering of information
  • Familiarity with the Data Protection Act 1998
  • Ability to extract and communicate key information effectively orally and in writing
  • Strong attention to detail
