TREES FOR THE TRI-CITIESPREPARES FOR DELAWARE BOULEVARD PLANTING PROJECT

Donations are still needed for some of this year’s projects.

Trees for the Tri-Cities will be completing their final tree planting project of the season this Saturday, April 21, on Delaware Boulevard, in Saginaw’s Northmoor Neighborhood. 15 trees will be planted by donations from the neighborhood and a family bequest from 2 sisters whose parents lived on Delaware. The sisters will be flying in from out of state for the event. The group will have a tent set up in one of the yards and will have refreshments, information and TREES ROCK! logowear available. They will also be winding up their Abele’s Gift Card raffle as well as have a 50/50 drawing.

“It has been a struggle for donations this year. It is very sad to see so many trees that have come down so far this year because of the Emerald Ash Borer. Our 80 trees don’t sound like much, compared to the Ash tree removal, but it’s a start. ” Trees for the Tri-Cities will be found at many events throughout the spring and summer, including Earth Day at the Saginaw Children’s Zoo on April 28, Friday Night Live, and the Farmer’s Market, to help make up the difference for this year’s projects, which they are short about $2800.

At the April 9, 2012 Saginaw City Council Meeting, Trees for the Tri-Cities was recognized for their efforts in honoring Arbor Day in Saginaw by receiving a proclamation from the City. At the end of their projects this year, Trees for the Tri-Cities will have planted 253 trees in the Saginaw area since forming in 2008. Trees for the Tri-Cities has helped Saginaw maintain their TREE CITY, USA status that is awarded by the Arbor Day Foundation.

Through the generous help of Abele’s Greenhouse and Garden Center, they are able to order bare root trees and store them until the plantings, where Louis Mitlyng says they become “instant tree”, usually starting to flower shortly after planting.
