2) 'Synaptic Serenades - Musical Narratives of Stroke, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Disease'

This musical event was is the first complete performance of three works composed by Ian Wilson while Composer in Residence at the Department of Geriatric Medicine and the Stroke Services at Tallaght Hospital. The works aim to reflect the patient narrative of the experience of these three illnesses of older age and the project was developed by the NCAH.

3) @ the Heart of Healing - an event for people living with cancer

The diagnosis and treatment of cancer is one of the great challenges which can face us as human beings. It has a huge impact on everyone involved because it brings us face to face with our mortality, often at moment when we least expect it.People who have had cancer often look back and describe it as a 'wake up call' which has changed their life for the better. It has provided them with an opportunity to get things in perspective and return to a state of peace and harmony with themselves and others, which is perhaps the ultimate form of healing.

4) Let's Talk: Social Inclusion Week event

Let's Talk are hosting a flagship event during Social Inclusion week on Tues 14th Oct in the DLR County Council Assembly Hall. During this all day event, many local and national organisations will be hosting stands and displaying posters and brochures outlining the services they provide. This event is aimed at parents and carers of teenagers and will cover a broad range of topics, like bullying/cyberbullying, drugs/alcohol, mental health, teenage behaviour, sport, body image and lots more!!

9) Volunteer Ireland launch annual awards with a call for nominations for Ireland's best volunteers

Press release - 03.09.2014 Volunteer Ireland today launched its seventh annual Volunteer Ireland Awards with a call for nominations. The Volunteer Ireland Awards are open to volunteers of all ages working with Irish Volunteer organisations and there are ten different award categories, as well as its overall 'Volunteer of the Year' award.

10) Inclusion Ireland conference: the cost of disability

The conference seeks to reopen the debate on how to address the costs associated with having a disability. Speakers will highlight evidence of the direct, indirect and opportunity costs of having a disability and how official measurements of poverty do not consider these costs. 25) Community alert awareness month

Community Alert Awareness Month 2014 will commence on the 1st October 2014 and runs until the 31st October 2014. Community Alert has been operating in rural Ireland since 1985 as a crime prevention programme. The programme is operated by Muintir na Tire in partnership with An Garda Síochána and harnesses the voluntary input of community members in almost 1350 Community Alert groups which operate nationwide.
