Track Meet – Thursday, April 27, 2017

Frenchtown High School

Coaches Information Sheet

Coaches and volunteers will have a brief meeting at the finish line starting at 8:50 am.

We have arranged for a number of volunteers; however, each school will need to pitch in to help run an event. See next page for assignments.Schools/Coaches are assigned as follows to run the event and/or check in with the volunteers to answer questions, verify that they are measuring/recording correctly, and make sure that they have everything that they need.

This is a walk-on meet. Each athlete should arrive to events with his/her competitor number written clearly on one hand (upside down to the athlete so the recorders can see them easily). Having the grade on the other hand would be helpful.

Please distribute the Schedule of Events to all athletes and families.

Field events may have no more than seven entries per grade, per gender, per school; except schools with 80 or more athletes. These larger schools may have nine entries per grade, per gender, per school. Please enforce this guideline.

Track events may have no more than five entries per grade, per gender, per school; except schools with 80 or more athletes. Those larger schools may have seven entries per grade, per gender, per school. Relays are limited to no more than four teams per grade, per gender, per school. There is no limit on the number of entrants in the 800m and the 1600m races.

Each athlete may participate in five events total, including relays.

  • Each athlete will jump three times consecutively until they are successful or eliminated.
  • Following three unsuccessful jumps, the volunteer will record the highest successful jump.

Triple Jump and Long Jump

  • Each athlete will jump three times consecutively (as much as possible)
  • Flags may be used to mark each legal jump
  • Following the final jump, the longest legal jump will be measured
  • A jump is illegal if any part of the athlete’s foot crosses over the board.

Measurement happens as follows:

  • From the edge of the board that is nearest the sand to the nearest mark the athlete left even if it is a hand print.
  • Measurement is to the nearest complete inch (round down).

Shot put

  • The shot put must be either eight pounds or four kilograms (8.818 lbs.).
  • Each athlete will throw three times consecutively
  • Flags will be used to mark each legal throw
  • A throw is illegal if the athlete crosses over or touches the top of the toe board or if the shot put lands outside of the boundary lines. Athletes should enter and leave from the back-half of the throwing circle
  • Following the final throw, the longest legal throw will be measured

Measurement happens as follows:

  • A line is made from the center of the throwing circle to where the shot put first touches.
  • The measurement follows this line and is measured from the inside of the toe board to the closest mark of the shot put.
  • Measurement is to the nearest ¼ inch.

Discus

  • The discus must be one kilogram.
  • Each athlete will throw three times consecutively.
  • Flags will be used to mark each legal throw.
  • A throw is illegal if the athlete touches outside the throwing circle or the top of the steel band or if the discus lands outside of the boundary lines. Athletes should enter and leave from the back-half of the throwing circle.
  • Following the final throw, the longest legal throw will be measured.

Measurement happens as follows:

  • A line is made from the center of the throwing circle to where the discus first touches.
  • The measurement follows this line and is measured from the inside of the steel band to the closest mark of the discus.
  • Measurement is to the nearest complete inch (round down).

Javelin

  • The javelin will be the 500g Flying Finn training javelin
  • Each athlete will throw three times consecutively
  • Flags/markers will be used to mark each legal throw
  • A throw is illegal if the athlete crosses the arc or if the javelin lands outside of the boundary lines.
  • Athletes should enter and leave from behind the throwing area.
  • Following the final throw, the longest legal throw will be measured.

Measurement happens as follows:

  • A line is made from a center of the throwing area to the javelin (there is an official distance, but the volunteer should use their best judgment of a “center”)
  • The measurement follows this line and is measured from the inside of the arc to the spot where the javelin first touched. If the landing is flat, it is measured to the handle position when the javelin first landed.
  • Measurement is to the nearest complete inch (round down).

Track events take precedence in the event of a schedule conflict. Field event managers should allow participants to leave for a track event if called, and then return to complete the field event. It is the participant’s responsibility to return immediately after the track event and if they do not return, they have forfeited their opportunity to compete in that field event.
