Classroom Management Plan Elementary

Applying the principles of classroom management, develop a comprehensive plan that can be implemented in a specific elementary grade level classroom. Your classroom management plan should include the following components:

Personal Philosophy

  • Your personal philosophy of classroom management that supports individual student development and motivation based on life experiences, personality factors, theories or research related to the development of children and young adolescents, and management theory.

Learning Environment

  • A detailed description of your plan to develop and maintain a sense of community within your diverse classroom: This plan should include the skills and attitudes you expect your diverse students to learn that promote positive social interactions and create a supportive learning environment.

Student Behavior

  • Select a model of discipline and justify it as a foundation for implementation in an elementary classroom. Discuss how the selected model of discipline relates to the development of children and young adolescents, and how it relates to learning opportunities that support an individual student’s development, acquisition of knowledge and motivation.
  • Explain strategies used to increase and maintain student motivation and the relationship of motivation to academic learning. Describe how you plan to foster active engagement in learning, self motivation, positive social interaction, and a supportive learning environment.
  • Apply the principles of classroom management and knowledge of individual and group motivation and behavior by presenting a structure for student discipline used in the classroom. Explain how rules can be developed and utilized to lead students to successfully apply and internalize positive behavioral skills, and continue to use those skills after leaving your supervision. Include a list of classroom standards (rules) for student behavior and their negative/positive consequences.
  • Develop a Disruptive Behavior Plan: Describe a process that will be followed when a student behaves outside the scope of the basic classroom rules and consequences.

Collaboration with Families and Colleagues

  • Develop a list of five to seven activities that are designed to establish and maintain a positive, collaborative relationship with families. Add a short summary about how these activities can promote the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical well being of children.
  • Write a Letter of Introduction to Parents: Include a statement regarding how communication will be ongoing throughout the year.
  • Create a Parent-Teacher Conference Plan (a template that includes items that need to be reviewed in all conferences).
  • Outline a Substitute Teacher Plan: What does a substitute need to know about the classroom management plan and class routines to effectively teach your students?

Assessment Strategy

  • Develop a Classroom Management Plan assessment strategy. Explain how the Classroom Management Plan will be evaluated during the school year, including how you will reflect on and revise practice if needed. Include how you will continually evaluate the effects of your professional decisions and actions on students, families, and other professionals in the learning community, and actively seek out opportunities for professional growth.
