Job Description

Child Caregiver

Caregivers will be responsible for ensuring the safety, health, happiness, and general well-being of each child in our care. He/she must be willing to follow all Child’s EarlyLearningCenter policies and procedures while working at this center. There is an experienced Program Director available to help guide, direct, and support you.

Examples of some responsibilities of Child’s EarlyLearningCenter team members are listed below. These shall include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Make daily plans in keeping with the philosophy of the program and the needs of children in the group.
  2. Care for room and equipment. Report items needing repair or replacement and submit requests for additional equipment.
  3. Cooperate with the Director and other staff in those activities involving the whole program.
  4. Meet licensing and other center requirements for continuing education and professional growth.
  5. Arrive in your classroom on time, as scheduled, and remain with your assigned group until your scheduled shift is over.
  6. Inform the Director immediately in cases of unreasonable or aggressive behavior, parent complaints, suspected child abuse, or other problems that should be handled by the Director in the best interest of the center.
  7. Smile, approach, and assist parents. Always acknowledge and welcome them upon arrival.
  8. Provide age appropriate, loving discipline and behavioral guidance.
  9. Read to the children.
  10. Assist in organizing children to initiate group activities and games with the children.
  11. Serve food according to guidelines set by Child and Adult Care Food Program.
  12. Periodically clean up the childcare area, putting away toys and supplies as needed.
  13. Lead craft projects, active play, story time, circle time, learning centers, with the children.
  14. Be able to play actively with children on their level, bend over, stand for extensive periods of time, and move quickly when necessary.
  15. Help ensure parents sign children in and out.
  16. Help ensure that no unauthorized adults are in the childcare area at any time.
  17. Maintain individual daily and meal records on children.
  18. Supervise the requisition of instructional supplies and equipment.
  19. Serve as a resource to staff, parents, and other staff.
  20. Be able to lift 30 pounds.
  21. Change diapers and help children use the toilet.
  22. Ensure sanitary conditions are met in the classroom, toilet room, and near sinks.
  23. Help children wash their hands often.
  24. Keep room, small toys, large toys (kitchens) clean and free of germs, grime, and dirt.
  25. Perform other duties as assigned by Director or manager.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Up to date personnel file (application, health history, references, background check, signed checklists and policies/procedures, hiring and wage statement, and any additional requested documents).
  2. Current CPR and First aid card, if requested by Director.
  3. Display a loving, warm attitude for children.
  4. Be flexible in hours worked in covering ratios, room in which you work, and whom you work with.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Experience in early childhood education, ages birth to 5 years of age.
  2. General knowledge of Municipality of Anchorage licensing regulations.
  3. Display warm, energetic, child-oriented disposition.
  4. Be friendly, fun, creative, clean and enjoy being around children.
