Quality Engineer
DEPARTMENT: Manufacturing / LOCATION: Amesbury, MA
REPORTS TO: OperationsSupport Manager / FLSA STATUS: Exempt
POSITION PURPOSE:
  • Key liaison between Production and the Management team to support the Sealing Division’s quality system, fulfill customer PPAP and APQP requirements, collect and monitor data, identify areas for improvement and implement corrective/preventive actions. This hands-on position also plays a key role in trouble-shooting product and manufacturing quality issues utilizing root cause analysis techniques and statistical analysis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Create and implement changes to support the site’s Quality Management System, and ensure full compliance to ISO 9001.
  • Lead the design and analysis of inspection and testing processes, mechanisms and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications.
  • Champion corrective and preventive actions and control of Nonconforming Product.
  • Interface with CI Manager in support of customers to resolve quality issues, driving permanent and effective corrective/preventative actions.
  • Partner with New Product Development to establish up-front measurements and test procedures prior to production runs.
  • Develop and implement a traceability program to manage product quality with near real-time corrective actions and reduce the cost of non-conformance

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated proficiencyin quality concepts such as Lean/Six Sigma, 6S, and ISO 9001, APQP, PPAP and FMEA. Must be able to demonstrate the application and appropriate use of statistical methods and tools such as Gauge R&R, Statistical Process Control, Capability analyses etc.
  • Results driven, strategic thinkerwith the ability to solve problems and communicate at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work “hands-on” with manufacturing team members in leading continuous improvement projects and activities
  • Ability to comprehend computer generated reports, design specifications and engineering drawings
  • Ability to write clearly and create detailed reports
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks smoothly with a high level of accountability

QUALIFICATIONS / PRIOR EXPERIENCE:
  • This position requires a 2-4 year degree in a technical discipline, along with 3 to 5 years’ experience in Quality in a manufacturing environment (injection molding and/or extrusion experience preferred).
  • Lean manufacturing experience required, green belt preferred
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of full Microsoft Office Suite required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to use normal office equipment (scanner, printer, copier, computer, phone, fax)
  • Must be able to talk/hear/sit/stand/walk for prolonged periods of time
  • The work performed is conducted in a facility with noise levels where hearing protection is required for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to periodically travel domestically
  • Ability to lift up to 25-50 lbs on an occasional basis
