Meeting Minutes

2013 Accomplishments:
-Great participation
-New Grant partners
-CHE funded grant 3yr
-Networking opportunities broadened
-Relationships have grown
-Better understanding of local breast health services
-Broadened resources
-Approx. 125 women served by free mammo program
-El Centro small grant from Komen for outreach
2014 Goals:
-Keep up partnership momentum
-Grow internal partnerships within our organizations
-Develop consistent funding sources for free mammograms (CATCH/Komen grant)
-Meet objectives of CHE grant
-Expand Coalition membership (ex. SENC/NHO/Private clinics/UNMC)
Group discussion:
-Sue Saxton has agreed to take on the leadership role for coalition. Lori will provide communication support. Other members will assist with minutes as needed.
-New Meeting location: Center for People in Need. 3rd Tuesday of each month from 9-10:30am.
-Amber Seitz from Family Health Services provided information regarding the upcoming ‘Love it or Hate it’ Fundraising event at NWU on Feb 8th, starting at 12p. Contact Amber for more info.
-Larry Williams (Malone Center) discussed the show he did on Channel 10 Health on 1/15/14 about African American women and breast cancer with Regina Sullivan, Renee Massie, & Pastor Janet Goodman Banks. Look for this video on YouTube
-Roger Garcia discussed the CHE Breast Health Project/Grant: IRB application has been submitted, hoping for a late February start date. Research to be completed by June 2014. Focus groups will need approx. 12 people per group. Participants will receive a $20 gift card.
-Need 6-8 clinics/institutions to participate in research phase (2-3 clinicians per site). Participating sites will be offered a $150 stipend. Lori will develop a simple “fact sheet” to use to recruit participants. Denise asked to see interview questions. Roger will get those from UNMC staff. Chris Bleich to contact SENCC/Surgical Care Associates/Surgical Care PC. Denise Logan to contact Radiology groups (St. E’s/Bryan/other clinics). Catherine Verplank & Carly Hunt to get contacts from St. E’s. Amber Seitz will contact Gyno/Fertility PC group and folks at Family Health Services. Sue Saxton agreed to connect with PHC regarding participation.
Special Condolences to Regina Sullivan on the news of her grandfather’s passing.
I want to thank all of the members of the Lincoln Breast Cancer Coalition for allowing me to be a part of this group for the past couple of years. I have enjoyed getting to know everyone & I look forward to hearing about all of the accomplishments this group will continue to have! Thank you for your dedication! -Jill Weyers
