Job Title: Young Persons Domestic Abuse Worker

Project:The Lookout

Grade:18 - 21

This post is fully funded until 29th February 2020, following this the post will be subject to continuation of funding.

Responsible to:Senior Project Lead

The main objectives to be achieved by the post holder

1.1To work as a member of The Lookout project team to provide support, guidance and assistance to children and young people, supporting their needs relating to Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse

1.2To contribute to partnership and inter-agency working to inform effective risk management and safety plans for children and young people

1.3To assist in ensuring that The Lookout provides a responsive and quality outreach service to children and young people affected by Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse

1.4To engage with young people with the aim of reducing unsafe relationships, with a particular focus on healthy and respectful relationships

1.5To maintain a working knowledge of PAC policy and procedures.

Support

2.1To deliver a varied programme of support for children and young people identified as high, medium and low risk/need in respect of their experiences of Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse

2.2To effectively respond to all aspects of referrals, assessments, support planning, safety planning, progress review and evaluation

2.3To be responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people at all times

2.4 To identify the most vulnerable young people considered most at risk of controlling and abusive relationships, stalking and honour based violence, and sexual abuse.

2.5 To work within SafeLives best practice guidance for the role of YPVA (Young Persons Violence Advisor)

2.6 To maintain an ongoing knowledge of individual service user issues

3.3 Engage in regular supervision with your line manager

3.4 Attend regular external supervision

3.5 Support other team members and volunteers in carrying out their duties effectively

4.1To assist in the collection and completion of all monitoring and reporting processes.

Administration

5.1 Comply and adhere to all administrative systems and procedures for the project.

5.2 Contribute to all Quality Management Systems

5.3To seek regular service user feedback and evaluation / review processes

5.4 Maintain high quality records and reporting of support provided

Health and Safety

6.1Comply with all aspects of health and safety and risk assessments within the project

6.2Contribute to the regular review of health and safety procedures

Facilities Management

7.1Maintain a working knowledge of Pendle action for the Community policy and procedures

7.2 Promote and facilitate the projects activities, development and participation of service users

Additional Requirements

7.2To work flexibly including evening and weekends

7.3To engage in regular supervision with your line manager

7.4To attend regular staff meetings

7.5To engage in all relevant training as appropriate with grade and post

7.6Liaison and engagement of other professionals as appropriate

Person Specification

Essential Criteria – Successful applicants must:

8.1To hold a Safe Lives YPVA qualification or equivalent or to be willing to work towards this

8.2Experience of working with young people, working within a community setting, working with disadvantaged young people

8.3Have an understanding of age appropriate interventions and engagement activities

8.4A working knowledge of child protection procedures, safeguarding and the legal responsibilities surrounding these issues.

8.5The ability to work as part of a team and the ability to work using your own initiative.

8.6The ability to mentor and support other workers and volunteers within the project

8.7To have experience of accurate and comprehensive record keeping in a variety of formats. To have the ability to evaluate, review and produce monitoring figures within the pre-set format

8.8To have an understanding of the issues that young people affected by domestic violence face and potential barriers to personal development

8.9To have an understanding of confidentiality, equal opportunities, non-judgemental attitudes and be committed to these principles.

8.10To be computer literate and have the ability to maintain client records and monitoring information in a clear and accurate manner.

8.11To have experience of managing a case load and the ability to organise and prioritise work.

8.12To have experience of working in a multi-agency framework

8.13To have the ability to communicate, negotiate and advise effectively in a variety of formats with a range of agencies and service users.

8.14Full clean driving license and use of a car for work purposes.

8.15To have an ability/experience to plan, develop, and facilitate age appropriate diversionary activities, group programmes and one to one support programmes

8.16The ability to work flexibly and attend staff meetings, training and multi-agency meetings as required.

8.17Ability to be empathetic with service users and act with integrity and respect with all service users, agencies and individuals.

8.19Have strong crisis management skills and the ability to deal with stressful and difficult situations.

8.20Ability to work sensitively in a multi-cultural environment.

8.21The ability to maintain a satisfactory enhanced DBS certificate.

9.1To have knowledge of local community issues and opportunities for young people

9.2To have an awareness of recording outcomes and outputs for young people

9.3Have theoretical, practical and procedural knowledge of civil and criminal justice remedies for victims of domestic abuse and their children.

9.4To have experience / knowledge of evidenced based interventions for young people and domestic abuse e.g. recovery toolkit for YP, helping hands, etc

9.5Experience of engaging in Common Assessment Framework
