BEEF

BEEF RULES AND REGULATIONS

  1. In order to exhibit in Beef, the 4-H member must be enrolled in:

Beef I - Bite into Beef Pub. BU-08143 or

Beef II - On the Mooove Pub. BU-08144 or

Beef III - Leading the Charge Pub. BU-08145

  1. Ownership of cattle specified per show.
  2. Entrants limited to showing the number of beef specified in each class.
  3. Generators will be permitted. They MUST be placed outside the barn and safely out of the traffic flow of animals and pedestrians.
  4. Dying or artificially changing the color of an animal is prohibited. Coloring agents may only be used up to the hock (knee). Powders are not allowed on any part of the animal. The use of false tail heads or the addition of hair, hemp or any similar substance to any part of the animal is prohibited. Animals may be given a white towel test or asked to exit the show ring at the discretion of the judge, superintendent or Extension staff.
  5. Refer to General Livestock Rules.

BREEDING BEEF SHOW

Rules and Regulations:

  1. Superintendents will verify registration papers for all purebred breeding beef. Exhibitors are strongly encouraged to provide a copy along with the original registration papers so that the copy can be retained for making of class order.
  2. Entrants will be limited to no more than two (2) breed subclasses with no more than two (2) entries per subclass.
  3. Beef shown in breeding beef division MAY NOT be shown in the market beef division and therefore are not permitted to be sold in livestock auction.
  4. IMPORTANT—For fair purposes only the breeding beef division is shown by subclass order. An entire breed will be shown before the next breed. (Angus classes 01 through 06 then Hereford classes 01 through 06, etc.)
  5. For classes 01 – 06 subclasses as listed below will apply:

SubClass A – Angus SubClass B – Hereford

SubClass C – Simmental SubClass D - All Other Breeds(AOB)

SubClass E - Commercial (Non-Registered)

SubClass F - Shorthorn

Class 01B - Junior Calf - Calved after January 1, current year- NO weaned bull calves permitted

Class 02B - Senior Heifer Calf - Calved September 1 - December 31 of previous year

Class 03B - Summer Yearling Heifer - Calved May 1 – August 31 of previous year

Class 04B – Spring Yearling Heifer - Calved March 1 – April 30 of

previous year

BEEF CONTINUED:

Class 05B- Jr. Yearling Heifer- Calved between January 1 and March 1, the previous year.

Class 06B – Senior Heifer - Calved September 1 - December 31 of two years previous

Class 07B - Cow - Calved before January 1 two years previous to show

MARKET BEEF SHOW

Rules and Regulations

  1. All market beef will be weighed Sunday of Fair. 4-H members must designate which market beef will be sold in the auction at this time.
  2. Superintendents will determine class divisions for beef based on the weight. Weight is used to establish estimated market value for the livestock auction.
  3. Only market beef may be sold at the auction.
  4. Each exhibitor will be limited to two animals in the market beef show (Market beef may NOT be shown in the breeding beef show.)
  5. No market animals with horns will be allowed to show.
  6. Market beef will be shown in class number order.

Class 08B – Market Heifer

Class 09B - Marker Steer

Class 10B- LAND OF CRAWFORD (registered, born, and bred by 4-H’er)

A special class has been established to recognize livestock born and raised by a Crawford County 4-Her. Only animals, which are bred, born and solely owned and exhibited by residents of Crawford County, shall be eligible to participate in such contests and exhibitions. All such animals, in order to remain eligible shall be maintained in Crawford County; provided, however, those such animals shall be permitted out of county for a maximum of 90 days for the purpose of showings and exhibitions or embryo transplants. No premiums awarded for this class. Prizes will be awarded to the Champion in each class. Animals MUST have registration papers. Class is open to breeding animals, market females, and market males.

Class 10BB- CRAWFORD COUNTY BORN AND BRED (non-registered, born, and bred by 4-H’er)A special class has been established to recognize livestock born and raised by a Crawford County 4-Her. Only animals, which are bred, born and solely owned and exhibited by residents of Crawford County, shall be eligible to participate in such contests and exhibitions. All such animals, in order to remain eligible shall be maintained in Crawford County; provided, however, those such animals shall be permitted out of county for a maximum of 90 days for the purpose of showings and exhibitions or embryo transplants. No premiums awarded for this class. Prizes will be awarded to the Champion in each class. This class is open to crossbred and non-registered purebred animals. Animals are not required to have registration papers. Exhibitor is required to fill out a livestock record and present to Superintendent during weigh in. Class is open to breeding animals, market females, and market males.

SHOWMANSHIP

Class 1-Junior Showmanship Ages 8-12 years

Class 2-Senior Showmanship Ages 13-19 years

Class 3- Overall Champion Showmanship NOTE – May be eligible for Master Showmanship Competition – See Master Showmanship

Regardless of age, Showmanship winner in Class 1 will move up to Class 2 the following year, winner of Class 2 will move to Class 3 the following year. Class 2 winners may show in class 3 and unlimited number of times. There will be a champion and reserve in each division. Entries on the 4-H Fair Entry Form are requested.
