Bali Hotels Lend Helping Hand to Island S Orphans

Bali hotels lend helping hand to island’s orphans

Discarded linen put to good use by BHA members

Denpasar, September 10, 2012—As part of its ongoing CSR program, Bali Hotels Association (BHA) visited a number of orphanages last week to drop off donations supplied by member hotels. This is the third year that this program has been in place.

The association, members of which comprise star-rated hotels across the island, regularly donates discarded but usable linen, including pillows, towels, duvets and bed sheets, to children in need. This visit, they went to orphanages in Narayan Seva, Permata Bangsa and Al Khoirot in Singaraja, a region far north from Bali’s capital, Denpasar.

These orphanages are in dire need of help. At Naraya Seva, representatives of 11 BHA members greeted 72 children during the visit. Most of the children sleep in beds with two or more others.

“The image of Bali is often one of a tropical paradise for tourists,” said BHA chairman Jean-Charles Le Coz. “And while this may be the case in the main, some parts of the island don’t benefit from tourism. At the same time, some of the island’s citizens can benefit from the money that tourism brings in,” he added.

“This is why our member hotels are keen to support this charity,” said Mr Le Coz. “When linen needs replacing, rather than waste it, what better way to use it than to give it to these kids, who so desperately need help.”

The programis part of BHA’s wider CSR program. Other initiatives include One Hotel One Orphanage, Assistance for the Disabled and Blood Drive. With these programs, BHA aims to improve the quality of life in communities where its members operate by supporting key initiatives and responding to community needs through financial contributions, donations and volunteer service.
