FINANCED BY THE ARAB BANK FOR ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT IN AFRICA (BADEA)
The Board of Directors of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), in its session held during the period 9-11March,2011has approved loans and grants for some African countries.
The total amount of the approved financing is US$ 94.385 million, of which US$ 91.700 million are earmarked as loans, for participation in financing of eleven development projects and US$ 2.685 million are allocated for financing ten technical assistance operations.

- Project Description and Components
Construction of the paved road of 80.5 km length, 7.0m width, and with two shoulders, each of width of 1.5m and 2.5m at villages and cities. This is according to design speed of 40-80 kilometer per hour, and shall include the following:
- Site Preparation: including site preparation; construction of the management, technical, and residential buildings and equipment maintenance warehouse for the contractor; as well as digging and preparation of water wells.
- Preparatory Works: traffic detour and provision of safety tools.
- Earthworks: including cleaning of the road corridor; filling, cutting, borrow materials; and provision of passages to ensure traffic movement.
- Construction of Base layer of 20cm thickness of crushed stone; and Sub-base layer of 27.5 cm thickness of gravel materials.
- Pavement Works: for covering the whole length of the road and its shoulders with 5 cm of pavement layer.
- Drainage Works: extending or replacing of some existing culverts, pipe or box, including the replacement of the reinforced concrete ditch lining by grouted rip-rap, during the preparation of tender documents; in addition to the embankment protection.
- Road Safety Works: including road side protection barriers; provision of road signs, pavement marking, and environmental mitigations measures.
Project objectives / The Project aims at developing, expanding and enhancing the country’s roads network through linking the “Aromia” region on the western region with other regions in Ethiopia and the capital city “Addis Ababa”. The Project aims also at facilitating the access of the agricultural products for other regions and supporting the economic and social development of “Aromia” region
Procurement of Goods and Services / Civil works and ancillaries: will be procured on the basis of an internationalcompetitive post-qualified bidding with a preference margin to Arab, African or Arab-African associated Contractors, in coordination with the Saudi Fund, Abu Dhabi Fund, and the Government.
Consultancy Services: shall be concluded through a short-list of Arab, African or Arab-African associated firms, in coordination with the Saudi Fund, and the Government.
Project’s Implementation / The physical implementation of the project is expected to start in the middle of 2012 and be completed in the end of2014 .

Project Description and Components / The project lies in the northern part of the country, 180 kilometers north west of the capital “Ouagadougou” and 222 kilometers from “Mobti” in Mali. The proposed project connect the town of “Ouhigouya” with the village of “Thiou” on the borders with Mali and is a continuation to the road “ Babhiagara- Bankas- koro- Burkina Faso border” which is financed by BADEA . The project consists of the following components:
- Civil Worksand ancillaries:for the construction of an asphalt road about 63km longwith a width of 7 meter and two shoulders each 1.5 m in width.
- Support to the Project Implementation Unit: Provision of two pick up vehicles, two computers, office equipment and office furniture.
- Support the capabilities of Ouhigouya Municipality and General Administration for Roads
- Support the protection of environment and social infrastructures
- Consultancy Services: for the review of detailed designs and tender documents and supervision of the execution of the works
Project objectives / The Project enhancing the trade between the project area, rich with the production of agriculture project and other parts of the country and enhance the trade exchange between Mali and Burkina Faso. The project aims at facilitation of transport of passengers and goods and reduces costof travel in addition to combating poverty.
Procurement of Goods and Services / - Civil works and ancillaries: on the basis of competitive bidding restricted to African, Arab or mix Arab-African firms and firms of the member country of BOAD.

Project Description and Components / The project lies 45 kilometers to the south of the capital Banjul over an area of 0.90 square kilometer. The project includes the following components:
1) Civil works and Ancillaries: Construction of building with total area of 40,000 square meters with its services and infrastructure, to accommodate about 3640 students, to construct new faculties’ buildings with their lectures’ halls and laboratories, administration buildings, cultural activity halls, library, and accommodation for the principal staff and students with their complete infrastructure, and also the external works including the site infrastructure.

4)Support to PIU: which includes salaries of the PIU professionals for 36 months, as well as the procurement of a computers with its accessories, printers & photocopier.
5)Consultancy Services:for the review of detailed designs and finalization of tender documents for construction, furniture and equipments; assistance in evaluation of proposals and award of contracts of construction and supply; and supervision of execution of the civil works.
Project objectives / The project aims at developing and raising the academic education standard in the country through the construction of modern buildings and facilities and secure additional places to meet the increased demand for the academic education and avail the required cadres in different fields.

Project Description and Components / The Project comprises in total 6towns namely Mansa, Kwamba, Chilila Bombwe Mpika, , Kasama, and Mbala. To ease financing the project was divided to two stages:
- First Stage: includes the towns Mansa and Kwamba, BADEA contributed with 6.8 millions
- Second Stage: includes the towns Mpika, Kasama and Mbala.
Noting that the Chilila bombwe town will be financed by the government.
The towns Mpika, Kasama and Mbala lies in the northern province of the country neighbouring Tanzania and Malawi. The total population is currently estimated at 158,000 and is expected to reach 360,000 in the year 2035. The project consists of the following components:
- Civil works and Ancillaries which include:
1.2Rehabilitation of the treatment plants:
Rehabilitation of sand filters, pumping station Supply and laying of pipelines, construction of an overhead tank, Supply of two generators each with a capacity of 25 kilowatt for the treatment plant at “Kasama” to be operated during the interruption of the electric current from the national grid.
1.3Conveyance and distribution pipelines made of PVC with diameters ranging from 90 to 160 mm and a total length of about 17 km
1.4Supply and installation of house connections: which includes 8500 household connections.of which 4500 for “Kasakm”town, 2500 for”Mbala” town and 1500 for “Mpika” town
2.The consultancy services for review of detailed designs and tender documents, assisting the Executing Agency in launching analysis of bids, award of contracts and supervision of the execution of the works.
Project objectives / The Project aims at the development and improvement of supply of potable water in the towns Mbika, Kasama and Mbala to meet the current and future demand till 2035. The project will help in improving the standard of health of the population and reduce the spread of polluted water borne diseases. The project will also participate in enhancing the economic activities in addition to the contribution to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.

Project Description and Components / The Project lies in town of “Butalangue” in the district of “Nakaeseke”, 80 klm north west of the capital “ Kampala”. The project includes the construction and equipping of a technical institute in the fields of brick/block laying and concrete practice, carpentry, electrical installations, metal fabrication and welding, agriculture mechanization, motor vehicle mechanics and plumbing. The project is composed of the following components;
1-Civil Works and Ancillaries: construction of buildings with a total area of 5074 square meters for classroom, workshops, Library and Computers room, Administration building, housing, Toilette blocks, Sports Facility, Preliminaries, fences and internal roads, Borehole and tank.
2-Provision of Equipment, furniture, bus for 30 students, and double cabin 4wd vehicle for the institute administration
3-Support to the Project Implementation Unit which includes provision of 2 computers along with their accessories and one double cabin vehicle
4-Consultancy Services for reviewing of the base line adopted by the ministry and carry out site adjustment to the design, prepare tender documents and construction supervision
Project objectives / The project aims at the participation in the development of human resources through availing the opportunities for technical education in the central part of the country where it lacks the adequate technical education facilities which help in availing qualified cadres to meet the market demand.

Project Description and Components / The total length of the road is 308 klm and to ease financing the project was divided to three sections:
- First Section, Sangmalima- Djoum with a length of 108 klm was divided to two lots, first lot, Sangmalima- Bikoula with a length of 63 klm to be financed by IsDB. Second lot, Bikoula- Djoum with a length of 38 klm to be financed by BADEA, OFID, Kuwait Fund and Saudi Fund.
- Second Section, Djoum- Mintoum, with a length of 80 klm, AFD is contributing in financing.
- Third Section, Mintoum- Congo border, with a length of 125 Klm, the government is looking for financing.
the project, Bikoula- Djoum, is composed of the following components:
1. Civil Works and ancillariesfor the construction of an asphalt road with a length of 38 klm and width of 7.5 meters along with two shoulders each of 2 meter in urban areas and 1.5 outside urban areas..
3. Consultancy services: for the review of the detailed design and prepare the tender documents and supervision of construction.
Project objectives / The Project aims the participation in the development of regional cooperation and increasing the trade between Cameroon and Congo, facilitates the transport of passengers and goods in the southern parts of the country, reduce the cost of transport, reduce the isolation of the villages along sides of the road and participate in the social and economic development in the country.

Project Description and Components / The project lies in the northern part of the country in “Namuno” village and town of “balama” in Cabo Delgado province and in “Majun’ Village and town of “Lichinga” in Niassa Province. The project include the following:
1-Civil Works and Ancillaries:
- Construction of medium level agriculture institute in both “Balama” and “ Majun” with an area of 5223 square meters to cater for 600 students and provision of housing for 200 students and 12 teachers and include Administration building, classrooms, Library and Computers room, Laboratories, Toilette blocks, Medical post, Auditorium, housing, Restaurant and kitchen, Sports Facility, experimental farm, workshop and Construction of gravel road in “Majun” village.
- Construction of secondary school in “Namuno” village” with an area of 2390 square meters to cater for 600 students and provision of housing for 200 students and 12 teachers and Administration building, classrooms, Library and Computers room, Laboratories, Toilette blocks, housing, Restaurant and kitchen, Sports Facility
