As Things Turned out It Proved to Be a Very Tight Race with Hartlepool HS & the Owton

Saturday the 24th June saw the federation return to Oakham for the 4th time this season where the 6 member clubs mustered a total of 981 birds which where liberated by chief convoyer Steve Profitt at 8.00 am into a west south west wind with a quick race anticipated for 135 miles plus distance.

As things turned out it proved to be a very tight race with Hartlepool HS & the Owton Manor HS dominating the fed result though the Supporters & Stranton HS where well represented in the result and it was business as usual for the members of the Hartlepool HS when Sonny & Phil Galloway led the way for the fourth time this season when they had two birds arrive together at 10.42am their two year old blue cock getting just in front of their eventual 2nd bird but I do believe this one failed to register first time over the pad but none the less it made no difference to their positions in their club taking the first two places with velocities of 1537 & 1533 which where good enough for 1st & 6th federation respectfully. 3rd 4th & 5th places in the club went to the ever present Ian & Dave Maddison with velocities of 1530 and two on 1518 two win 7th 13th & 14th places in the fed result.

Up at Brierton Lane in the Owton Manor HS Geach Bros & Mckenna got a fantastic trap to time at 10.38am to just miss out on top spot in the fed result when recording 1536 but was just enough to keep Graham Campbell & Kevin Hall at bay when they had 3 birds arrive together to take the next three positions in the club when their trio recorded 1535 (2) and 1534 to win 3rd 4th & 5th places in the federation result to round of a great team performance, Steve Leslie takes 5th place in the club on 1528 for 11th fed to complete the card places at the Manor.

At the Supporters HS runaway leaders in the club Mr & Mrs Brian Noble lead the club yet again when timing at 10.41am to record a velocity of 1530 which is good enough to win 8th place in the federation and for good measure their second arrival records 1507 to win 3rd club 30th fed to complete yet another cracking result for the husband & wife team, George Forbes times at 1043am to slit the Noble’s pair recording 1512 to win 22nd place in the fed result.

In the Stranton HS on the Burn Valley allotments Mr & Mrs John Groom lead the way when timing at 10.40am to record 1527 which put them into 10th place in the fed result they have a 13 yard leave over this year’s pace-setter Bob Trowsdale who records 1514 and takes 18th place in the fed result, team “Groom” are back again with their second arrival on 1513 to win 3rd club 21st fed while Terry Atkinson continues to have a say in things when recording 1511 which is good enough for 4th club and 23rd place in the fed result.

At the Belle Vue HS the father & son team of Keith & Darren Heatley lead comfortably when timing at 10.42am for their first win of the season, John & Terry Chapman continue their great form when they 2nd at 10.43am while the Greatham maestro Eric Wilson is third when timing at 10.43am.

Steve Addison times at 10.46am and completes a 1,2,3 in the West End HS with club secretary John Weathrill in 4th place at 10.54am.
