Visual Arts Standards:

Communication:

Students recognize and use the visual arts as a language for communication.

Perceptions:

Students know, understand and apply basic components of the visual arts as they solve visual problems.

Application:

Students know, understand and apply materials, techniques and processes related to the visual arts.

Heritage:

Students relate the visual arts to historical, cultural and personal heritage.

Aesthetics:

Students analyze, interpret and evaluate the characters, merits and meanings of works of art.

Transfer of knowledge:

Students know, understand and apply connections between the visual arts and other disciples.

Objectives

Learn multiple techniques used art. Students will increase their ability to solve problems in a creative manner. Students will learn creativity. Students will be exposed to basic art concepts. Build an appreciation for the arts. Students are able to accept responsibility for their personal participation and community maintenance, operation, and safety of the classroom.

Grading Outline

Each task in category is rated on a four point scale, with each category counting 10% of the final grade. (please refer to the rubric for further details.) All late work must be made up in the 2 weeks block that it occurs. Any failed project may be reassessed through a rigorous research paper on the artist of Mr. Wirth’s choice. All reassessed art work will be done at home with your parent. Some tools and materials can be checked out. Projects that require tools or materials that cannot be checked out will require office hours and academic recovery time to complete.

Art Fees

This class is an elective that does not requires a fee. Students wishing to extend objectives to assignments may be asked to pay more for the semester. This fee would not used to buy or replace tools or equipment. However, for a particular unit each student will be issued a set of tools that will be responsible for during the term. Besides normal wear and tear, any lost, or stolen, or damaged tools must be replaced by the student at the student’s own cost. Parents shall be notified by email to pay the replacement cost. No student shall be denied these classes due to financial reasons. Students pay any fees or fines to the office. Due date will be given each semester.

Students will be responsible for the following materials outside of class.

Safety

Because of the unique nature of fine arts medium, students will be required to take and pass safety tests with a 100% outcome before using certain pieces of equipment. The use of this equipment is mandatory to the successful completion of this course. Due to the nature of tools and equipment in the art room. Students will adhere to the safety rules given in class.

Skills and Responsibility

During the course students will be able to build technical and creative skills in their art. Students are asked to take risks in creating something unique. Failures are only the building blocks to a successful work or art. *Students will be responsible for keeping a journal containing a collection of images, ideas, sketches, and thoughts about art. Students will have considerable opportunity to express their creativity, but also be held accountable for developing skills to accomplish a quality piece of art. Group and individual critiques will be held so students may improve their art work. Peer feedback is important for the growth of each student’s portfolio. Respect is the basic rule I hold in the classroom. This contains respect of oneself, others and materials throughout the art department.

Technology Agreement in the classroom.Wewill use laptop type devices in the classroom on any given day. We will not be texting, messaging or using cell phones in the classroom. Cell phones will be confiscated if seen out and placed in the office where the parent can pick up at the end of the day. Please come to me with any questions.
